You can restore your device from a backup to keep your important data and photos safe. Need help backing up your phone? Learn how to back up your device.

Restoring your data during setup

After completing a factory reset, your phone will guide you through the setup process. Stay connected to Wi-Fi throughout, as a solid connection is essential for restoring your data.

Using your Google account

During setup, sign into the Google account used to back up your phone. Google makes it easy:

  1. Enter your account credentials.
  2. Follow the on-screen steps to choose what to restore, like apps, photos, or settings.
  3. Tap Restore, and the process will begin.

Restoring can take up to 24 hours, depending on the backup size. Your phone remains usable while it continues in the background.

Restoring an iPhone

iPhone users can restore their data using iCloud:

  1. Turn on your device and follow the setup prompts until you see Transfer Your Apps & Data.
  2. Select From iCloud Backup and sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Choose your most recent backup, and the restoration will start.

If your iPhone requires an update to restore, follow the prompts to install the latest software.

Restoring after initial setup

If you skipped restoring during setup, you can still retrieve your data. Here's how:

Samsung

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts and backup.
  3. Tap Restore data under Samsung Cloud.
  4. Select the backup you want.
  5. Choose the apps or data to restore.
  6. Tap Restore to begin.

Google Backups

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts and backup.
  3. Under Google Drive, tap Restore and follow the prompts.

iPhone

If you are using an iPhone and didn't select a back up during the initial activation, you will need to a complete a factory reset and restore your data from a backup.
