It should be possible, it is just a matter of providing the necessary information to conduct the port. The hard part seems to be the account number, which some claim using the full phone number works, others say that they had to use the IMEI number as the account number. Either way, it should be possible to port out. You may want to contact Tracfone support and ask what information should be used for porting away.

Tracfone is no help. They never listen to what you actually want to do, and they outsource their customer service to India, even though they deny it.

Tracfone is no help, but it can be done.  You phone needs to be active. You need to be logged in to your tracfone account.  If you never set one up, it is easy to do on tracfone .com.  After you are logged in you should see a picture of the phone on the account.  Update the account information with your name and address, ect.  Back on the account page you will see a button the says more details.  When you open it you will see the serial number of the phone.  That is the account number you need to port the number.  It takes about 4 hours from the start until the number is ported.

I actually just initiated a port on a Tracfone number so we shall see. I used the phone number as the account number. It worked for my Straight Talk number.

You can keep your Tracfone number. I went from Tracfone to Ting and was able to keep my number. I don't remember exactly what I did to port the number, but I know it didn't take that long, nor did I have any problems doing it.

FYI, my Tracfone port worked just fine. It took less than a day.  I cancelled the Tracfone once my Ting phone was active. I think Tracfone still doesn't know I'm not a customer any more. Like so many companies, they think they save money by cutting service and customer service and out-sourcing it.

I had to call Ting Customer Service to find out how to complete the port number request form ( https://ting.com/account/port_swap).  I don't know why this is not documented any where else but the trick is that under ACCOUNT #, you put your Tracfone phone # (just the digits no spaces or dashes) and under ACCOUNT PASSWORD/PIN, you put your Tracfone serial #.  That worked to port over my number from Tracfone to Ting.

Hi, I'm trying to port a Tracphone to Ting.com. I have the serial # and phone number. When I try to enter the serial number at the password, the form complains that the password is too long, can only be 15 digits. The serial# (MEID) is 18 digits. How do I port this number?

FYI I called Ting support. They said enter the serial # (MEID) as the account name, and four zeros "0000" as the password. The above information how to port the number was incorrect.

Thanks Monte.  For other people looking at porting their numbers, please check this thread which has some more information about bringing your number from other carriers.
