Migrating from RingPlus to Ting

In the next week or two, active RingPlus lines will be automatically migrated to Ting (please stay tuned for the exact date).  On behalf of all of us, welcome to Ting.  We're aiming to make this journey as simple as possible, but we're still ironing out some of the finer points.  You can read a few more details from RingPlus here, but there are a few especially important points we'd like to highlight...

  • Ting will gladly honor the RingPlus Top Up balance that you had as of February 5, 2017.  If you had $35.00 or less in RingPlus TopUp credit, you'll receive $35 in Ting credit before your first bill.  If you had $35.01 or more in RingPlus TopUp credit, you'll receive $35.00 to start and then $5.00 each month until all of your remaining RingPlus TopUp credit balance has been honored.
  • The lawyers (please don't feed them, or the birds) insist that you'll need to agree to the Ting terms of service and provide up-to-date billing information to keep your service active once the migration is complete.  Don't worry, we'll reach out when it's time to take care of this step.
  • Ting has one simple plan: $6 per month, per line.  Every line on your account shares its minutes, messages, and megabytes with every other line on your account.  You only pay for the bucket of minutes, bucket of messages, and bucket of megabytes that you use each month.  We're not nearly as elaborate as RingPlus here, we know.  And we realize that some folks may find better deals elsewhere.  But if Ting works out for you, we promise to do our best to provide great customer care and reliable wireless service.
  • We're working with RingPlus and Sprint to ensure there's no interruption at all in your service.  We'll let you know if you need to do a profile update on your device, but we're hopeful we'll be able to skip that step to save you the time and hassle.

If you started the porting process from RingPlus to Ting before today, you're fine to let that complete — we'll take care of making sure your RingPlus TopUp credit is honored.  Although you'll have to complete a profile update on your device to fully complete the port, we'll be here to help.

We'll update this article as we finalize the details over the coming days, but we really appreciate your patience as we work to make the transition as seamless as possible for you.

Just in case it is handy, here is the porting information that previously lived here...

Porting from RingPlus to Ting

If you really can't wait, you can manually port to Ting — just keep in mind that it may take a day or two (as it is an intra-carrier number transfer, rather than a true number port).  You'll need to gather your account number and PIN from RingPlus.  Your account number should be your phone number (without any dashes or spaces) and your PIN may be the MSL (or master subsidy lock) of your device.  You can confirm both of those numbers easily from your RingPlus dashboard.

  1. Head over to your RingPlus Account Dashboard.
  2. Click Port-out/Port-in under the Account Features section.
  3. In the top right-hand corner of the screen, you should see Port-out Information.

Once you've got your RingPlus account number and PIN confirmed, you're ready to get started.  Just head to ting.com/activate and follow the steps.  If you'd like a little more help, check out this guide.

My account number with Ringplus has dashes and that is how I entered when I added my device with you...is this going to be a problem? In your article above it states no dashes.

I did the same thing as patty and I am also curious to know if it will be a problem?

Same here, plus in the device settings, it is showing a completely different phone than what I'm porting in?

    Hi there ,

Not to worry about the dashes in the account number. Our system will remove them as necessary and leave an account number of numerical value for the port request

Hi Sirs, I have 4 lines in Ringplus that I would like to transfer to Ting but I want to take advantage of the 4 lines per account that could cost me $54. Is this possible?

I was with R+ for several years and began to see a continuous spiral into the abyss of problematic corporate issues. I am now pleased to be with TING and can't wait until the transfer is complete.

Can anyone or all of you, if you can, share how long it took to port out from Ringplus to Ting? Please be specific, like what day of the week you started the process and when it ended successfully? I know we don't have but 5 business days to do this until February 11 deadline, but if I start the process Tuesday morning, I would like to know if the port will be done immediately.

Hi Rocio; I statrted the port out process yesterday, and hope it will be done by Friday. I would do it today just in case any problems arise. I hope ALL of us will like Ting. I was amazed by the sudden email received by R+ ... I am ready for a class action suit against them... I have over $50 on credit which I will lose on February 11th because of R+ failure to expeditiously communicate with their subscribers.

I don't think the port in has started but I signed up for 3 lines, where can i check the port in status?

    Evening everyone ,

We have encountered some delays with ports coming from R+, as you can imagine they are experiencing a lot of port outs at once. The volume of which has caused a number of delays. If you have submitted a port through us but cannot see it, do not worry, they are listed as pending in our system and should start to populate on your individual Ting accounts soon enough. We hope to see them complete tomorrow and welcome everyone to Ting

Rocio to answer your two posts in order

You could easily keep the 4 lines under $54 depending on usage of course. We offer you the ability to create alerts and caps on your account at no extra cost, Alerts/ Caps can be set per line or for all phones as a whole. Feel free to check out our rates at https://ting.com/rates and if you want to save on Data usage (if you are using smart phones) utilizing wi-fi where available is a great cost saver

To answer your second post , ports can take up to 1 business day or 24 hours, considering the announcement was made on Friday we expect the ports to clear tomorrow. Once you have the port submitted to us there is nothing to fear, a carrier cannot expire a number if there is a port in place to another carrier . Again apologies for the delay , we cant wait to have everyone on board :)

Edward - sorry to hear about the trouble , I have no doubt you will be up and running with Ting long before Friday. And do you know we have referral links which add $25 credit to start your Ting account . However watch this space in the next day or two as I think we might be working on something especially for you guys

Issac - I can see one port in specifically under your email address as pending, I have just sent you an email myself , if you could reply to that with the other 2 numbers you mentioned I would be happy to check.

As I mentioned above some ports are still pending which we can see and should populate on your accounts in time

Is there a page on the site that shows port status? I'm not finding anything nor did I receive an email after I submitted mine.

    Edit: Thanks!

So once the port out is done, your saying I will be without phone service until the port in has been completed which could take several days.

  • Avatar
    Michael Grote

MARK, Nah i have two lines that are in the middle of porting out and have service on both still. It's just a matter of waiting for R+ to get off their butts and approve the ports.

  • Avatar
    MARK KILMAN

So service is not interrupted, right?

  • Avatar
    Sean Boylan

Once the ports complete to our service you may need to just simply power off and on the phones to refresh the network. Service should remain on with your old carrier until the moment it transfers to us . Once it does the phone will need a quick reset to reconnect.

We will send a confirmation email once the transfer completes for you to let you know. It will also include any instructions you may need to refresh the network depending on what model of phone you have brought to Ting

I have an old account with you, if I port my Ring Plus number over to Ting will I still get the $35 Credit?
I have 3 numbers/devices I need to move from Ring Plus.

Do we have any update as to how fast Ring + is approving these numbers porting over? That part of it really worries me.

So they have to manually approve each one, or is it really an automated process?

  • Avatar
    Sean Boylan

@pokemonwarrier :) if you have an existing account with us please send us an email to help@ting.com and we will be happy to help you out

@Brian Suttie, We're working with Sprint and RingPlus to expedite the approval of ports. We hope to have an update later this afternoon on the ETA for ports from RingPlus to Ting.

I have a total of 5 lines to port back over, I haven't submitted any yet, but will probably start this afternoon.

Was with Ting before and I forgot what REAL customer service was during my time over that Ring + .

Thanks for all that you do!!

So great news , we have just announced the promotion for Ringplus customers on our blog

If you sign up at http://ringplus.ting.com/ you will get a $35 referral credit from us. If for any reason you miss the link or even have submitted a port before now you can always send a help request to us once the number has completed and we will be happy to take care of you. The credit can be used as service credit against your account or as a discount off selected devices valued $150 or more

If I have 1 phone active on Ting now (which I kept just so my account stayed open IF I had to move back from Ring +)

If I move the additional 5 back from Ring + am I still eligible for the promotion, or is it just new customers to Ting that are porting numbers from Ring +?

    "Dear Members,

RingPlus is currently in discussions with other MVNOs (wireless carriers) that are ready to take over your service on their plans. Your Top Up balance will be credited by the other MVNO as a courtesy. Additional benefits will likely be available. If you port out now, you will lose your top up balance. You will be informed on how the switch will be completed as well as the information about the carrier later today. If you are interested in participating in the process, please do not initiate a port at this time. RingPlus and the other MVNO will work out a transition process, and infom you of the details very soon. (Unfortuantely, I you have already initiated or completed a port out, you will not be able to participate in this process.)

    Best regards,
    RingPlus"

Great, well I started 2 ports and unfortunately will lose the $25 top up on each of those lines.
