GSM Devices Capable of Wi-Fi Calling

Follow

Last updated by Suzanne Thomas

This article is to help you check if your phone is capable of using WiFi calling on Ting.

The majority of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) phones that can use WiFi calling need to be a T-Mobile branded phone. Some devices may also require a minimum software version, or you may need to update your E911 address. Please contact us to update this information.

For additional Wi-Fi Calling information, please see the following articles in the Ting knowledgebase:

Here is a list of BYOD phones that are capable of Wi-Fi calling on Ting's GSM network. The phones must be T-Mobile branded unless stated otherwise.

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 that is not from T-Mobile, so WiFi calling will not work even tho I have the option to turn it off and on on my phone? Thanks.

    Hey Gladia,

The WiFi Calling feature is different on every phone, and not every phone supports it. The reason we ask that your S8 be from T-Mobile is that those phones already have the programming information in them to connect to our WiFi calling servers. An S8 from Verizon or Sprint wouldn't have that information, and there's not an easy way for us to put it on those phones.

If your S8 came directly from Samsung, it should have the right programming information to use WiFi Calling. Just make sure the option for WiFi Calling is enabled in your Ting dashboard.

If you get stuck, just drop us an email at help@ting.com and we would be happy to help you out with this.

Why doesn't Ting sell GSM phones other than iPhones capable of WiFi calling?

To Ian McFarlane: We just got a Moto G6 from Ting. It came with wifi calling enabled by default.
