Improve slow Wi-Fi speed in parts of your home

Every home presents a unique situation for Wi-Fi coverage. A Wi-Fi extender may be useful if you notice areas in your home where speeds plummet or connectivity becomes unstable. The ZyXEL WAP6804 Extender is designed to work seamlessly with your ZyXEL EMG6726 router and is compatible with 3rd-party routers.

Setting up the WAP6804 as an extender

The WAP6804 can be set up wirelessly to boost or extend the existing Wi-Fi signal from your router. Quickly connect the WAP6804 to your existing ZyXEL router using the WPS feature. WPS allows the extender and ZyXEL router to sync up without complicated setup steps.

  1. Ensure both the WAP6804 extender and EMG6726 router are powered on.
  2. Set the switch on the back of the WAP6804 to RP
  3. On the router, hold the WPS button (orange key LED) for 6 seconds and release. The 2.4G/5G Wi-Fi LEDs should start blinking orange to indicate WPS is active.

  4. On the WAP6804, press and release the WPS button on the back. The WPS icon should start to blink after a short delay.

  5. When the WPS process completes and the pairing is successful, the WPS icon on the extender will turn solid green, and the WPS icon on the router will turn solid amber.

If the WPS indicator on the extender turns red, it means the WPS process has failed. This is usually because the extender and router are too far away to connect. Try moving the units closer together and repeating the WPS steps.

Setting up the WAP6804 as an access point

Using the WAP6804 as an access point offers several benefits beyond using it as an extender, but this option may not always be possible due to distance or your home's floorplan. If you can connect the WAP6804 to your router with an Ethernet cable, this style of connection is highly recommended.

If the WAP6804 has never been powered on:

  1. Connect the WAP6804 to the router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Ensure the switch on the back of the unit is in the AP position.
  3. Power on the WAP6804 by plugging in the power source.

If the WAP6804 has previously been powered on:

  1. Connect the WAP6804 to the router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Ensure the switch on the back of the unit is in the AP position.
  3. Press the RESET button on the back of the unit with a small object for 5 seconds.
  4. Wait 1-2 minutes for the WAP6804 to finish powering up.

The WAP6804 will automatically configure itself to act as an access point and broadcast the network name printed on the base of the unit.
