Updating the Picture Messaging or MMS URL on Your CDMA Device

Last updated

If you're having trouble with picture messaging on your device, it can sometimes help to update your picture messaging or mms url.

Before you update your mms url

If you're getting error messages like "low balance" or "mms not supported by network" that probably means you don't have picture and video messaging enabled on your account.

Go to the Device Settings for your phone in your Ting account online and make sure "Can send/receive pictures, videos and group messages" is Enabled. Also, make sure that your device "Can access the Internet."

Once you've confirmed that data and picture messaging are enabled on your account, make sure data is enabled on your device. MMS messaging that isn't being sent through a third party messaging app requires a cellular data connection.

How do I update my mms url?

This depends on your phone. Most phones running the same type of software will have similar ways of getting to the same goal.

We've listed some of the most common pathways below for Android, Windows and feature phones. iOS devices do not require this update.

Most Android phones

  1. Dial # # 3282 # (if you have a Nexus device dial *#*#3282#*#*)
  2. From here, common paths to the mms url are:
  3. Once you've entered the new mms url and saved it, if the phone doesn't reboot on its own, restart it.

For Windows OS7 & OS8 phones

As with feature and Android phones, you'll need your MSL or password for your phone to complete these steps. You'll be e-mailed your MSL when you activate your phone or you can find this in the Device Settings page for your phone in your account.

  1. Dial # # 3282 #
  2. From here common paths to the mms url are:

Most feature phones

  1. Dial # # 3282 #
  2. From here, common paths to the mms url are:

These directions are by no means exhaustive; they are just the most common ways to find the mms url in your phone. If you've searched high and low and can't find the mms url in your device, get in touch so we can help you out. Just keep in mind, we can't update the mms url on most phones if you're actually speaking on the phone, so if you call in, try to do so from another phone.

Secure Messaging

You can also use the urls https://mms.plspictures.com or https://mms.sprintpcs.com for messaging through a secure protocol. It may take longer to send/receive messages using these urls.

A couple of months after signing up with Ting (we love it!) both our Optimus S phones quit downloading MMS pics.  This fix is just what the doctor ordered!  Only took a minute, and now we're able to send and receive pics again!

I've been trying to send MMS messages over the past two days without success. I have reset the mms url several times. Is there a known issue with Ting's mms url?

I can't send and MMS on my Galaxy III. I just realized that recently when trying to send photos. Please help!

    Hi Kris,

Picture messaging also has to be enabled on your account for it to work. By default we don't enable that when devices are first activated, so you have to opt in to that service. I've gone ahead and e-mailed you directly with details.

I'm having a similar issue with a galaxy s2. Picture messaging is turned on, but I leave my 4g/3g off. When I want to view a picture I turn them on and nothing happens. I also have picture messaging enabled in my account.

On my Galaxy S2, if "group messaging" is turned OFF I can receive send & receive pictures via text.  But if "group messaging" is turned ON, texts with pictures appear (on my phone) to send fine but they are never received by others.

If "group messaging" is turned OFF, I can send a message to multiple people and they each receive it fine but it looks to them as though I sent it only to them (not MMS, not sent as group chat).  If "group messaging" is turned ON and I send a text-only message to multiple people, it will appear to send fine but the messages are never received.

When someone includes me in a group chat, I can see the multiple people included but as they chat back and forth, I receive the messages separately so I have to jump back and forth between names to try and follow the conversation.

I have checked the appropriate boxes on my dashboard.  I have updated the URL (plspictures). Nothing works.  I want group chat!!

    HELP!

I have the Samsung Ativ S Neo, I wasn't able to send pitcures. I then used the url in the advance settings to fix the problem. Now I can't even send or receive messages. Then my facebook stopped working. I keep on reboting , nothing . When I do open my messages app, on the very top it indicates that it can not connect. I check all my connects and checked all the boxes in my Devices settings.... HELP !

Hi, I can not receive picture texts on my HTC One. My wife can receive picture texts. She has the same phone, and is also on ting. It does not work on wifi nor 3G.

I've logged into settings to verify that I am allowed to receive picture texts. I've followed the instructions on this post, and the MMSC was already set correctly. I don't know what to try next.

Hi Kwang. I just checked your account and saw that picture messaging was not enabled for one of your phones. I turned that on and it should start working provided that the MMSC settings are correct. If you still have any concerns, please contact us here and we'll troubleshoot it further through a support request.

I've got a galaxy note 2 and I've reset the url 4 times and now it tells me I have a low account balance. And I just started the account today? Something I'm doing wrong?

  • Avatar
    Courtney W

    Hi Kerry,

Not sure what that error is -- our accounts don't have prepaid balances, so an error reporting a low account balance doesn't apply at Ting. Looks like picture messaging is enabled on your account. We've e-mailed you some picture messaging correction instructions.

I am having the same issues with my HTC EVO. I am using Hangouts for my messaging. It was working this last November but not now. Please help--new grandbaby is due soon and I want to see those first pictures.

    Hi Joan,

First of all, congratulations! Grandbaby pictures are very important.

If you're using Hangouts for photos, the Google support will be able to direct you to fix that https://support.google.com/?hl=en

I've gone ahead and checked your account to make sure that picture-video messaging is enabled for your two phones. To make sure that is working, you can follow the instructions at the top of the forum.

    Hope that helps!
