Need help tracking down the roaming settings on your CDMA device? This article will walk you through finding and updating them. Just click on your device type below.
Android phones have a variety of options available when it comes to roaming, often including roaming mode, roaming guards and main roaming settings. There are three examples of Android devices below to cover off some of the most common pathways to and configurations of these settings.
This is a common pathway to roaming settings for a lot of devices running Jelly Bean. If your device is running KitKat, you'll likely be able to access roaming settings without tapping Mobile Networks (i.e. one less step):
- Mobile Networks
(Pictured: Coolpad Quattro II 4G running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 )
In some cases, the roaming settings are slightly hidden in the mobile data option rather than being located in More, as is often the case:
- Tap Mobile data but not the ON/OFF toggle
- Scroll down to work with main roaming settings
(Pictured: HTC One M8 running KitKat 4.4.2)
In this example there are fewer roaming options to work with:
- Mobile networks
(Pictured: Nexus 5 running KitKat 4.4.3)
Tap System Select to choose whether your phone can roam or not.
Older Android Phones
Android phones running Ice Cream Sandwich (or older) will have varying pathways but they almost invariably start with going to Settings and then Wireless & networks. Of course on some devices, the Roaming option may be located right in the main Settings menu.
It's relatively simple to get the roaming settings on an iOS device and they are a bit more streamlined than on an Android device:
- Go to settings
- Tap Cellular (if your phone is running iOS6, you'll need to go into General to find the Cellular option)
- Tap Roaming
(Pictured: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.1)
Roaming settings are neatly divided between voice and data on Windows devices, making them super easy to work with:
- Go to the Settings menu
- Tap cellular
(Pictured: HTC 8XT running Windows OS8.0)
Most feature phones share the same pathway to roaming settings:
- Select from Roaming Guards, Roaming Mode and Roaming Settings
While the pathway to the roaming settings remains the same, other feature phones don't offer main roaming settings, but just Roaming mode and Roaming Guards:
- Select from Set Mode, Call Guard and Data Roam Guard.
