Completing Activation for your LG Device

Click the link below that applies to you:

The following steps are intending for the majority of CDMA LG devices running Android software.

The first thing you will need to do is ensure that 3G/LTE (if you have an LTE device), voice, and text messaging are all working properly on your device. To do this, a Carrier Wipe, and Profile & PRL update are required. Please follow the steps below. For a number of these updates you'll need your Master Subsidy Lock or MSL--this is a six-digit code provided to you by Ting in your activation email; you can also find this information in Device Settings in your Ting account online:

1. Carrier Wipe

  1. Disable Wi-Fi and enable data (some LTE devices do not require this)
  2. Open the dialer
  3. Dial # # 72786 #
  4. Enter your Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) (a six-digit code provided to you by Ting in your activation email)
  5. Touch "OK", phone will restart

2. Profile Update

  1. Disable Wi-Fi and enable data (some LTE devices do not require this)
  2. Touch the “Application” icon
  3. Touch “Settings”
  4. Touch “System updates” (on some devices the System updates option might be in another Settings menu such as "Other" or "About phone")
  5. Touch "Update Profile". The device will restart when complete

3. PRL Update

  1. Disable Wi-Fi and enable data (some LTE devices do not require this)
  2. Touch the “Application” icon
  3. Touch “Settings”
  4. Touch “System updates" (on some devices the System updates option might be in another Settings menu such as "Other" or "About phone")
  5. Touch “Update PRL”. Wait for the PRL update to complete, then touch “OK”
  6. If your device does not restart after the PRL update, restart it

Once your device restarts, 3G/LTE data, voice, and text messaging should be enabled.

If you have problems during this process, there may be some additional configuration required. Please take a look at the steps outlined here.  If you have tried all the options and are still having problems, get in touch so we can help you out.

  11. For APN roaming protocol, enter IPv4
  12. Tap the Menu key/icon
  13. Tap Save
  14. Select Ting Data as your APN - your phone will use the MMS APN settings automatically as it needs to
  15. Restart your device and wait for it to find the Ting network--this may take a minute or so
  16. Confirm that you're able to send picture, video and group messages

plspictures.com says "This website has been discontinued" since August 2012. Is mms.sprintpcs.com the correct URL, now?

    "
    This website has been discontinued.
We apologize for the inconvenience. This picture messaging website was discontinued on August 20, 2012. You still have the ability to send and receive photos and videos from your phone.

If you are a user who had access to this web site previously, please contact your mobile service provider for any questions or clarifications.

Hi Jeff, the correct URL is  " http://mms.plspictures.com." The URL isn't meant to be viewed as a webpage, but rather act as a gateway for MMS services on your Ting phone.

In section 1 above, my LG Mach never let me enter a MSL number... it just updated something and rebooted.  Seems like it worked, though.

After that first reboot, it automatically took care of sections 2, 3 & 4 above (system, profile, PRL).

I'm having trouble with the Picture Messaging Settings section.

There should be a step between 2 & 3 for this phone.  I have a menu and MMSC section.  If I hit "edit" there, it doesn't let me enter anything except numbers and characters (no alphabet characters) so I can't type http://mms.plspictures.com.  Neither the QWERTY keyboard or on-screen keyboard allow me to even enter the first "h".  My MMS texting won't work... when I hit "View" under MMSC it shows "http://mms.sprintpcs.com".

    What can I do?

Nevermind.  I looked at another set of your instructions for a different brand and it said to enter your MLS # and THEN edit the URL.  That worked.  I think these instructions need to be edited!  :)

    Hey Andy,

I'm really glad that you were able to edit the MMS URL for your LG Mach! You're correct, the above instructions are not universal across all LG phones - I just grabbed an LG Optimus S and that device also has a variation on the MMS programming steps. The steps are general guidelines to program your LG phones, but we are more than happy to help out either through a phone call or email help request to get your specific model programmed. You just beat us to the punch :)

When I type in ##72786# I get a screen titled "SCRTN" and it says "MDN, MSID, SLOT 1 NAI and SLOT1 NAI Passwords to be changed back to factory default values" instead of that MSL input box. then it restarts. It keeps doing it.

I'm using the Sprint LG Optimus G

Nevermind, Got it. So for my phone I had to type in the MSL I received in my email as ##MyMSLNumber# then it goes into the service menu, then it restarts. Weird.

Hey Jesus, the carrier reset works a little differently depending on the device you use. The directions above are very generalized. I'm happy to hear that you were able to get started by following the manual activation steps.

I am having trouble activating an LG Rumor (LX260).  This is an older phone and when I 'call' ##72786#, I get a message saying "your account could not be validated.  Please contact customer service".

This is a phone that I am moving over from PlatinumTel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Russell,

You may want to call or email Ting support to get individual assistance,

  • Avatar
    Henry Abey

Hi Russell, I'll be sending you an e-mail shortly so we can get your phone programmed. Some of the older phones don't use the carrier wipe code, so we'll probably need to manually program the phone. Please keep an eye on your inbox.

I am trying to activate a LG Remarq.  (as a 2nd phone to my Ting account, porting it's phone number from Sprint)  I did the carrier wipe, but cannot update PRL, I get " could not load webpage" error, and "network error".  Calls to the phone go straight to voicemail, with which carrier I don't know.  This phone had no data turned on with Sprint.  The phone is useless at this time.  Can you help?

  • Avatar
    Bruce Osborne

    timothy,

Do you have data turned off for the device in the Ting web dashboard?

The device needs data turned on to initially activate and then it can be turned off, if desired. Ting allows a small free data allowance for activation.

Call or email Ting to open a ticket for more personal support. They can check the system to see what is happening.

    Hi Timothy.

Have you already tried to update your data profile? We need to make sure the profile update has been successfully completed before trying to update the PRL. If you haven't done that yet, please go to Settings -> Others -> Data - > Update Data Profile on your LG Remarq. This should confirm your data settings and allow you to update the PRL.

Keep in mind that you'll need data/internet enabled under that device for those updates to go through, so it might be worth double-checking that under the Device Settings tab after logging in at ting.com. As you need cellular data to perform those updates, you also can't be roaming.

You can also contact us by phone at 1-855-846-4389 or by clicking here if the update fails or you need further assistance.
