GSM APN setup guide

If you're having issues accessing data or using MMS and group messaging and you've tried all the other steps, it might be time to check the APN settings on your phone. These settings are usually automatically set up when you activate your phone on Ting, but sometimes, you may need to add them to your phone if your phone didn't receive the update.

APN settings on iOS

If you are using an iPhone you can install the carrier bundle by going to Settings > General >About. If the carrier is set to Ting, then you're all set to go! These steps are the same wether you are using our X1 or X3 SIM card.

If you are using our X3 SIM card please ensure your device is running iOS 14 so that it can receive the carrier bundle.

If you don't see Ting listed as the carrier and an option for an update doesn't appear after a minute or two, try restarting your phone and checking for the update again.

APN settings using the X3 SIM card

If the customer is using Android they will be required to use Network-specific APN settings. While using the X3 SIM card you will be required to enter both APN types to your device.

  2. Tap More networks (under the Connections tab, or More, Wireless & networks, Wireless Controls, Wireless Manager, Phone Information).
  3. Tap Mobile or Cellular networks.
  4. Tap Access Point Names.

  7. If you're adding a new APN, tap Save.
  8. Select Ting Data as your APN.

What if data works but MMS doesn't?

If your data is working on your Android device, but your MMS and group messages are not, you can try creating a separate APN setting for just MMS.

  1. First, edit your existing APN to remove the MMSC field.
