Buying a phone with Ting
When looking to purchase a new phone or upgrade your device, head over to the Ting shop and select the device you want. You can click on the phone to view the device specs and features and hit the Buy now button to start purchasing the phone. Once you hit the Buy now button, the website will ask you to log in and place the order.
All devices in the Ting shop are unlocked and compatible with our GSM network.
Bring your device to Ting
You can also bring your existing devices to Ting. Your phone will need to be unlocked by the previous carrier or be a carrier-free phone when you purchase it. We can't tell if a phone's unlocked or offer to unlock it ourselves, but we can check it to ensure that your phone has everything needed to come to Ting with our compatibility checker. Just get the ESN, MEID, or IMEI of your phone, and we can make sure that your phone meets all of our other requirements, so all you'll need to do is check with your carrier that it's unlocked.
The ESN, MEID, or IMEI is a number that's unique to each phone. You can find it on many phones by entering the code *#06# on the phone's dial pad or in the Settings under General and About. If the phone has a removable battery, the number is often printed on a label in the battery compartment.
Buying a device from someone else
If you cannot find a device that appeals to you in our shop and want to buy the device straight from the manufacturer or a third-party seller, you have to make sure:
- The device is unlocked or carrier-free and is not under a contract with another carrier.
- The phone has the VoLTE feature. VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is a requirement to activate on Ting. The feature allows you to have improved call clarity and simultaneous voice, and 4G LTE data use.
- The IMEI is clean, which means it's not flagged as having a balance with another carrier or marked as lost. The best way to check is with our compatibility checker.
