I received an email about being a beta tester for the iphone but when I tried to activate it through the website, it said it was no eligable. How can I do this? Is there a special website for the beta testers to activate our devices or something I'm missing? Thanks for the help in advance!

    Can I bring in a AT&T I Phone? Thanks

    Hi Nagalapur -

Thanks for your question. You can only bring devices from our whitelist to Ting. Right now we can't accept any AT&T handsets.

If anyone's hopping onto this from the email blast, make sure you read through it all. Ting is just supporting the iPhone 4 & the 4s at the moment, not the 5. Just a heads up.

Sorry Ting, I cant get mine to work....tried all the steps, keeps saying Sprint on the top of the device.

  • Avatar

Glenn, that's normal. Sprint is the underlying network providing the service. You can verify whether your device is active on Ting by visiting https://ting.com/account/devices and confirming it's listed there.

I have an active iPhone 4S  through Sprint and I want to bring it to Ting. The email for beta testers says it should be inactive. I would really love to keep my current number. As I understand only active numbers can be ported.    I plan to terminate Sprint service  but then how can I keep my phone number? Thank you, Elena

Ting, I just bought an HTC Evo 4G from your used page on Tuesday. Will I be able to send it back and get an iPhone instead?

Elena, here's a simple idea: 1. buy a cheap used Sprint phone 2. activate it on Ting and port your iphone's number over to it, deactivate your iphone on Sprint 3. activate your iphone on Ting and port your number back to it. 4. sell your cheap phone.

I would love to bring my (AT&T) iPhone to Ting, but I'm going to have to hold out until newer generation devices (5, 5S) are supported or until Ting carries the devices to be sold.

This is exactly what I'm doing. I found an LG Optimus S on eBay for about twenty bucks. It's maddening to wait for shipping, but I think it'll be worth it come Tuesday. I might even keep the LG as a backup.

Hi - I have a Canadian iphone 3GS which was on one of the Canadian networks - not sure if it was Bell or Rogers - given to me by a friend. Any hope there?

@Glenn, I'm going to reach out to you via email. I want to figure out what's happening.

@Elena Samuel offers great advice on how to keep your mobile number. It looks like Michelle has already attempted it.

@Christopher We can't activate phones from AT&T on our network due to technological limitations. AT&T is a GSM network and we are on Sprint's CDMA network.

I got the email to port my Sprint iPhone to Ting, mine is an iPhone 4. All went well, I can't however update the roaming, or whatever settings like Android can, and *288 (standard in some wireless companies) doesn't work either. The only thing I found was what Sprint uses and I did it but I'm only getting the 1x next to the "Sprint" network icon and my internet is as slow as heck. I'm in a built up area where Sprint and Verizon are prevalent. How can I update my iPhone 4 connection to 3G, the 3G is only there 1% of the timr. My old Sprint account worked great here when I had it.

By the way, next week I am leaving for England and I see it's not on Ting's list as far as being able to use your service there. Am I right in assuming I can't use my phone there on Ting/Sprint?

@Brennan, thanks for the response. I understand the limitations, but if I have to get a new iPhone I would prefer it to be a newer generation iPhone (5, 5S). On that same thread, I would prefer to give my money for a device straight to Ting.

I'm sure supporting the newer models is eventually in the road map for Ting (as this is a beta), but I might eventually cave and buy a 4S in the meantime. Been missing Siri. ;)

your device is supposed to say "Sprint"..so does mine and my sons phones, lol.

somewhere on the site Eric theres a page or link that says to keep you updated about bring iPhone to Ting, once on the network is says "Sprint" yes for carrier. to update the PRL on iPhones Ting customer service on the phone says to press ##873283# which is Sprints PRL update code also. Anyone should be able to take an unregistered Sprint iPhone and add it to Ting. I didnt port my number though maybe it's why it worked fast, my problem is the PRL isn't updating enough to give me 3G here yet when this iPhone was on Sprint it was great. So it's NOT my iPhone.

Just got off with customer support and wih my only getting a "1x" for data connection I can't even send a text so I'll take my iphone off my account until Ting irons out it's bugs.

    Hi Debb,

Sorry for the hassle here! I can see that you have sent in a couple of requests to our helpdesk so I will look into them for you and see if there is anything we can sort out.

    All the best!

@Debb let us know how it went and if you were able to get the full service you used to have with Sprint, under Ting. It may save other people the hassle.

    Thanks!

@Christopher i suppose that the public beta is only to iron some kinks in the activation process. I don't think you will be able to bring an iPhone 5 any time soon. You would probably need to wait until iPhone 6 is released, and then the story would probably repeat itself. I would give it a few weeks and jump in, if you indeed want to use Ting.

@Debb I don't believe that there is any CDMA operator in the UK that you can roam with your phone to its network. Even if there is, you may be paying a fortune per minute. Your best bet is to buy an inexpensive GSM phone on eBay that has the frequencies used in the UK. Then get a prepaid SIM card in the UK. You can probably buy the SIM card online before getting there. Have a good trip :)

@ Wally Ting only supports Sprint phones. No other operators, specifically not GSM phones. Try to sell your phone on eBay (sell it only to Canadians for the Rogers network, if it is not unlocked) and buy a used Sprint iPhone 4s either on eBay or other marketplaces as Ting indicated. Good luck!
