What is a static IP address?
An Internet protocol or IP address is the numerical address associated with your physical location on the Internet. You can check your IP address by simply entering "my IP address" in any search engine.
IP addresses for the same location can (and do) change periodically so your IP address today may not be the same as the one you had yesterday.
A static IP address is one that doesn't change.
Why do I need a static IP address?
A good rule of thumb is that if you don't know what a static IP address is, you probably don't need one.
If you need to be able to whitelist your IP address or you need to use a VPN (virtual private network) for your business, you may need one or more static IP addresses.
Residential and business customers can add 1 static IP address to their account for $19/month. Enterprise customers also have the option of 8 static IP addresses (6 usable plus 1 network and 1 broadcast) for $39/month.
What kind of static IP addresses does Ting offer?
Ting currently offers IPv4 static IP addresses in our Ting towns.
Do I have to decide upon signing up?
No. You may choose to add a static IP at any time.
Is there a limit to how many static IP addresses I can have?
We don't have a set number but we will review requests for static IP addresses individually.
