Static IP addresses

What is a static IP address?

An Internet protocol or IP address is the numerical address associated with your physical location on the Internet. You can check your IP address by simply entering "what is my IP address" in any search engine.

IP addresses for the same location can (and do) change periodically so your IP address today may not be the same as the one you had yesterday.

A static IP address is one that doesn't change.

Why do I need a static IP address?

A good rule of thumb is that if you don't know what a static IP address is, you probably don't need one.

If you need to be able to whitelist your IP address or you need to use a VPN (virtual private network) for your business, you may need a static IP address.

How much does it cost?

Business or Enterprise Gigabit customers can add 1 static IP address to their account for $19/month.  See the section below if you need more than 1 static IP. Static IPs are not available to residential connections.

Is there a limit to how many static IP addresses I can have?

We don't have a set number, but our business representatives will review requests for static IP addresses individually.
