Removing Inactive Mobile Devices from Your Account

Last updated by Isabel M

Whether you're replacing your phone with a better, faster, stronger model or you left it in a forgotten diner on that last road trip, you may find it handy to be able to remove a device from your account. Now you don't need to worry about getting in touch with us to get that done; you can take care of that right from your account:

  1. Go the Device Settings in your account online
  2. Find the inactive device you want to remove from the account
  3. Click the trash can icon

It's that easy! Just remember, you can't remove active devices from your account, so if you want to remove a device, make sure it's inactive first.

"if you want to remove a device, make sure it's inactive first."

So the next question is ... how do I make a device inactive?

Hi Jackson.   If a phone is active, you can deactivate it by either swapping the number to another device or expiring the number.

Be careful with expiring a number - if you do it by accident, we may not be able to recover it.  If you need assistance, open a support request and we'll be happy to help.

When I try to do this, I get an error message which states "Device can not be detached from your account".  This device is definitely inactive.  It was lost and deactivated immediately, but I've never been able to actually remove it from my devices/account.
