Setting Your Primary Contact Number

Follow

Last updated by Isabel M

You can designate one of your Ting phones as your Primary contact number.

To change the Primary contact number, head over to your Account settings. You'll see a Primary contact field as well as an Alternate contact field. The number listed as your Alternate contact is the number you would have given us when you signed up, before you had any numbers with Ting. To begin updating click the edit icon at the top right of the Details section of your account settings.

Use the drop down to select one of your Ting devices to be your primary contact. Don't forget to save your changes. You can update your Primary contact to another device on your Ting account anytime.

Once you have an active phone with Ting, you'll be required to set a primary contact whenever you make changes to the Details section of your account settings.

Having it default to (in my case) the last added number is ridiculous. In most cases the first number added to an account will/should be the primary.

Secondly, not having an option for NONE is just as ridiculous. Many of us have accounts with phones on them that should not be considered 'primary' for the purposes of contacting us about our accounts. We all had to specify contact information when we signed up for the service and that included a phone number.  If there's an issue with my account and you feel the need to call me maybe you should use the information I gave you instead of trying to divine it from tea leaves.

    Hey George,

The bug has been identified and a fix will be implemented later today. For existing Ting accounts, it should set the primary contact to the oldest activated number from your account.

Secondly, if we need to contact any of our customers, we'll always reference the active numbers on the account, plus the phone number used when you signed up (assuming it's different). We like to think we're resourceful :)

I'm not sure why this has caused you a great deal of anger, but if you there's an issue you have with Ting - we want to address it. If you prefer, I can reach out to you. Let's talk.
