Completing Activation for Your Amazon Fire Phone (GSM Only)

Follow these directions to complete activation for the for the Amazon Fire Phone.

 

1. Reset APN to Default

Before beginning these directions, insert your activated Ting GSM X1 SIM card.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi & Neworks
  3. Tap Change your mobile network operator (if this option is not available, tap Turn on mobile data access and enable Mobile Data or Cellular Data)
  4. Access Point Names
  5. Select Reset to Default

 

2. Add Ting Data APN Settings

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi & Neworks
  3. Tap Change your mobile network operator (if this option is not available, tap Turn on mobile data access and enable Mobile Data or Cellular Data)
  4. Access Point Names
  5. Select Add an Access Point Name
  6. Enter APN settings
    • Name: Ting Data
    • APN: wholesale
    • APN type: In the field, enter the following exactly as written without spaces: default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri,internet,dun
  7. If it's not set, enter 310 for MCC.
  8. If it's not set, enter 260 for MNC.
  9. For APN protocol, select IPv6
  10. For APN roaming protocol, select IPv6
  11. Scroll down
  12. Tap Save and Select APN
  13. Tap the home button to return to the main screen
  14. Reboot the device and wait for it to find the Ting network - this may take a minute or so
  15. Confirm that you're able to access data

If you experience issues with data, try resetting the APN protocol and APN roaming protocol (steps 9 and 10) to IPv4 and IPv6.

 

3. Add Ting MMS APN Settings

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi & Neworks
  3. Tap Change your mobile network operator (if this option is not available, tap Turn on mobile data access and enable Mobile Data or Cellular Data)
  4. Access Point Names
  5. Select Add an Access Point Name
  6. Enter APN settings
  7. If it's not set, enter 310 for MCC.
  8. If it's not set, enter 260 for MNC.
  9. For APN protocol, select IPv6
  10. For APN roaming protocol, select IPv6
  11. Scroll down
  12. Tap Save
  13. Keep Ting Data selected as your APN; your phone will use the Ting MMS APN as it is required
  14. Tap the home button to return to the main screen
  15. Reboot the device and wait for it to find the Ting network - this may take a minute or so
  16. Confirm that you're able to send pictures messages

    I could not change the APN protocol to IPv6. It is set at IPv4. There is no option listed for APN roaming protocol.

    Same thing with my FIRE Phone. It may be that the phone itself does not have an IPv6 option or that it has something to do with the network. When I brought this up to Ting's technical support I was told that running on IPv4 is no concern. Same thing with not having the APN roaming protocol. You can only work with the options your phone gives you.

    I was having an issue with data access (I had little or none). I discovered that my "Automatic Operator Selection" was turned on and that I was no longer connected to Ting's Network Operator. Make sure this setting is "off" and manually select Ting Data (after you have finished the configurations above).
