Everything you need to know about your FreedomPop to Ting migration in one place. This article will outline your plans, porting in or porting out of Ting, sending texts and more.

What plans does Ting have? How much will I pay with Ting?

For new FreedomPop customers, we’re offering two introductory plans to help you during this transition from FreedomPop to Ting Mobile. The amount you pay depends on the plan you choose. To learn more about these paid plans:

  1. Head over to our FreedomPop migration portal.
  2. Select Choose your move or Next steps.
  3. Enter your FreedomPop account details to see the offers available to you.

You will be presented with two plans, both of which are valid for the remainder of 2019. Standard Ting rates will apply on your first billing cycle of 2020.

Please note: Ting does not offer free voice and text plans, nor do we offer VOIP services through a downloadable app. We don’t think free plans are sustainable, and we want to continue to successfully serve customers for another 6+ years.

Can I make free calls and send free texts with Ting?

First, let’s make sure we are talking about the same thing. If you were using the Free Calling App with Texting & WiFi Calling from FreedomPop, this app was exclusive to FreedomPop and will no longer work if you make the move to Ting. Check out our handy Making calls and sending text messages article.

I’m a FreedomPop customer. How do I make calls and send texts with Ting?

First, let’s make sure we are talking about the same thing. If you were using the Free Calling App with Texting & WiFi Calling from FreedomPop, this app was exclusive to FreedomPop and will no longer work if you make the move to Ting.

If you choose a paid plan with Ting, you will need to use the native calling and texting apps on your phone. Not sure where to find these apps? No problem. Check out our handy Making calls and sending text messages article.

Does my FreedomPop top-up/prepaid balance carry over to Ting?

FreedomPop decided to surrender their Sprint/CDMA customers, so we decided to offer them a new home and save their phone numbers. You will start Ting Mobile with a clean slate. Sadly we cannot recover any pre-paid balances from your FreedomPop account.

We do, however, have great introductory plans for all FreedomPop customers who decide to join Ting. We also have no contracts, no activation or cancellation fees and uninterrupted service when you migrate your numbers to your own Ting account.

We do, however, have a pretty great referral program. When you refer a friend to us using your designated link (they do need to be a brand new, non-FreedomPop customer), you’ll receive $50 in Ting service credit when your first referral activates with us. Don’t stop there! For each successful referral after your first, you’ll receive $25 in Ting service credit.

Can I hotspot on Ting?

Yes, you can. Whether you’re using a hotspot device as an alternative option to a router at home, or you’re using the hotspot function (tethering) on your cellphone, both options are available through Ting’s paid plans, which include data services. To learn more about these paid plans:

  1. Head over to our FreedomPop migration portal.
  2. Select Choose your move or Next steps.
  3. Enter your FreedomPop account details to see the offers available to you.

Need a quick refresher on hotspots? Tethering (or hotspotting) is allowing other devices, like a computer or tablet, to use your phone's connection to the cellular data network in order to access the Internet. You can do this by connecting physically to your phone with a USB cord or you can enable your phone's Wi-Fi network and connect to that. Keep in mind this does use mobile data. So if you’re paying for data usage, you may want to set an alert and/or cap to help keep control of data usage.

We have an article on Tethering and Personal Hotspots so you can refer to that if necessary.

How do I know how much data I’ve used?

We don’t want you to have any surprises on your bill, so we make it easy to track your current usage. To make things really convenient, you can either check out your usage online using your Ting Dashboard, or you can use the Ting Mobile App to track this while you’re on the go. Keep in mind that if you’re using the App on your phone to check, you will need a data connection either through cellular data or Wifi to access the information.

I moved to Ting, but am unable to make phone calls or send text messages. What do I do?
  • Uninstall or disable all FreedomPop related apps
    1. Go to Settings, select Applications, and Select all.
    2. Tap each and every app individually that mentions anything FreedomPop related.
    3. Clear cache and data and once done disable/uninstall. If the app is built into the phone it will say disable; if it's additional, then it will have an uninstall option available.
  • Use Stock Phone Dialer or download a new one from the Play store.
    • Customers have been having luck using Google Hangouts Dialer.
  • Download new Messaging app.
    • Customers have been having luck using Textra SMS.

Once you have removed all FreedomPop apps and/or downloaded new messaging or calling apps for your phone, you should be able to complete a profile update or carrier reset.
