Hi,

I have a phone on Ting that uses my one and only phone number. I would like to be able to occasionally make and receive calls with this number on my laptop and tablet, as well as send and receive text messages, such that moving between devices is seamless (or, as close as possible). I understand that Hangouts allows for making and receiving calls, and that calling from Hangouts requires having a GV account with funds in it. Is GV/Hangouts even the ideal way to achieve my goal?

While I've built numerous Asterisk-based office phone networks from scratch, I just can't wrap my head around how to configure what I describe, above. Google's documentation on GV and Hangouts is just so unclear and inconsistent that I'm not sure if what I want to achieve is even possible, let alone what the steps to achieve this should be. Is there are thorough and up-to-date place where I'd be able to locate the steps to achieving what I'm looking to do, or can someone provide me with a step-by-step set of instructions?
