inconsistency with text messaging, specifically Group Texts

Hoping someone can help. Both my wife & I are on iPhone 6 devices we ported over. 2 mos. ago We have noticed recently, although frankly this could have been happening for some time, that we are not getting some group texts (all iPhone, mixed w/ Android, images, no miages, all combinations.

We have chatted with support at least 4 times and have now each called. We have spun through all the Settings under Cellular Data Options multiple times, restarted, reset them on both phones, factory reset one phone even (https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205428708-GSM-iOS-APN-Settings?page=2#comments is the source doc we used).

Has anyone else seen this inconsistency getting group texts?

  • group texts, like picture messages, use data. Text-only SMS messages can use the cellular voice network.

  • We are having the EXACT same problem.  I don't get any group texts if even one person is an non-iphone user. It's only happened since switching to Ting.  Have you found a solution?

  • Hey Guys,

Group texts need to have the APN settings added in or they will not work correctly, and in most cases we see people tend to over look the MMSC URL when adding them in or have entered it with typo's.

Without that entered correctly along side the rest of the APN settings you will not be able to use the services correctly.

Depending on your phone type you'll want to review the following guides:

    iOS devices:

    https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205428708-GSM-iOS-APN-Settings

    Android:

    https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205428698-GSM-Android-APN-Settings

    Windows:

    https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205428678-GSM-Windows-APN-Settings

    And basic phones:

    https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205427518-Feature-Phone-GSM-Support-Guide

Part of the problem we see often with Apple devices is that even if you've entered these settings in before, they will be removed from your phone whenever there is a software update, for whatever reason Apple thinks this is okay.

So you may need to add these back in time and time again.

Another thing to keep in mind, is that MMS are not designed to work over Wifi on the majority of phones out there, so if you're having issues, try and disconnect from Wifi and see if that solves the issue for you.

Your phone should be doing this on it's own when it detects an MMS message, it should drop Wifi, switch data on and then once the MMS has been sent/received pop right back over to Wifi.

  • Sorry, I should have posted an update. I found exactly what Brad W said: my APN settings had been reset. Everything has been working great since I corrected them.
