texting between two devices on account
Answered

When one text is sent from one device on ting account to another device on that same account - THIS COUNTS AS TWO TEXTS against the pooled text use on that account? How is that fair?

  • Hey Chris.

Since we bill on a per use basis, both numbers will be charged for incoming and outgoing messages as well as phone calls. If you do not want to be charged for texting and you find yourself messaging the other line on your account more often than other numbers, we suggest using a 3rd party app such as Textra to cut down costs on usage. You will be able to use this app over WiFi and have the ability to communicate without being billed.

  • Textra only sends MMS over WiFi, regular texts are sent over the cell network and counted as texts.

Using an app like WhatsApp over WiFi would not show up as usage.

  • Counting as two texts is fair because Ting's partners charge them that way. Ting keeps their fees low by not hiding their expenses in higher "unlimited" fees. Cellular calls between those phones count double minutes too - Outgoing & Incoming.

On Ting GSM, Wi-Fi calling uses minutes too because the call still traverses the partner cellular network, triggering a charge to Ting.
