can I use my phone in Cambodia?
Answered

I am travelling to Cambodia--wondering if I can use my ting phone there, or if I can activate it with a local sim card.  I will only be there a week so no big deal, but I am just curious.

  • Hey Daniel.

It looks like all devices on your account are CDMA phones and this would mean they would not be able to roam internationally on our network. However, if the device you plan on using has a sim card slot, we would be able to request a sim unlock for international usage up to Sprint. With this being said, you then would be able to pick up a sim card from a local carrier in Cambodia and use that network on the phone. Take a look at this article for more information -- https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205422098-CDMA-SIM-Unlock-

  • Thank you for your quick reply, Jamie.

I actually have a gsm phone--a ting lg g4 that we mothballed because of coverage in our area.  It looks like it would be eligible for unlock, but it is not currently activated.  Do I have to activate the device with Ting first?

  • Yea, you would need to activate our GSM sim card in order to us it with our network while travelling.

  • Just to clarify, then, I need to activate the phone, request unlock, and then activate it with a local sim card when I get there.  i can't just take it as is and put a Cambodian sim card in it.

    Thanks for your help.

  • If it's a GSM phone, you don't need to request an unlock, that's only for a CDMA device.
