I just thought I'd leave a short note of thanks and encouragement to those who are considering switching to Ting from one of the Big Three carriers. I have a LG G4, on GSM that I using on T-Mobile. With some trepidation about the transfer process (the long article about how to change settings was a tad daunting), I still went ahead, ordered a new SIM card, and took a deep breath to begin the switch.
My phone was paid off (on T-M's installment plan) and the phone unlocked using the T-M app. The PIN used to transfer my exisiting number was simply the last four digits of my SSN (confirmed by phone with T-M's rep; the information on carrier porting could be updated--one doesn't need to call T-Mobile.) One simply fills in the T-M account number and PIN, and clicks on through.
The new Ting SIM card was activated virtually instantly, and I got an email stating that the number was ported within 3 minutes--not the 24-72 hours I expected. Very pleasantly surprised! Then Ting sent me a text that had a link that updated my data and text settings; I rebooted the phone and was back in business. The whole process took less than 15 minutes, and required no fiddling with my LG G4's settings (it's running Android 6.0) and I sent and received a couple of texts to friends to test things; it was seamless.
These forums tend to be dominated by postings that describe glitches, problems, frustrations. I just thought I'd post a note of kudos to Ting for making this process, at least for me, quite painless, even pleasant.
