Stuck on Edge
Answered

So I gave my wife my old HTC One M7 and she uses Ting and I set it up and it works great. So great in fact that I decided to ditch my carrier and bring my own HTC One M8 over to Ting as well. Got my sim card, did all the things it said to do and the phone works, texts go and come fine, my problem lies in the fact that I am getting only Edge for coverage and my wife when sitting right next to me is getting 4G LTE!!  That isn't fair!!

Is there a setting I can change or something I can do to get my phone up to speed? I don't want the slowest internet in the family!

  • Hey Aumarie,

I've just checked out a few thing on your account and believe this issue is related to the devices themselves and the compatibles frequencies each phone has with our specific GSM network.

I'm going to email you so we can discuss this in further detail, off a public forum.

    Talk soon!

  • My husband has a Huawei phone and we have the same problem. Phone works , text fine .. but only Edge for coverage. I have an iPhone and getting 4G Lite. We want to get 4G network on both phones.

  • Hey Katie,

Do you know what model of phone your husband is using? If it's not one that supports our 4G frequencies, that's why you're not receiving them.

You can check yourself by letting me know the model (usually behind the battery, if it's removable OR Settings > About) or by putting the IMEI into ting.com/byod, which should tell you if the phone supports our 4G frequencies.

  • Hi Mitch,

Huawei P10 Lite 32GB WAS-LX3 Octa Core 3GB RAM International Version LTE (Gold) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZYMMXVW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uhGvBbAF3W15W
This is the product link and it does says support 4G network.

  • It looks like it should get 4G LTE, if that's the exact one you've got. Do you have the IMEI handy? You can send it to me in an email at mitch@ting.com, rather than post it in a public forum here.

  • Thanks for emailing me the IMEI, Katie. I have some news for you.

Based on the IMEI you gave me, I don't think that phone is the Huawei P10 Lite. The GSMA (where we get our frequency compatibility information) says that phone you have is the Huawei Nova Lite, specifically this one.

    They look almost identical.

The one with the square button on the back is the P20 Lite, capable of 4G LTE on Ting. The one with the circle is the Dual-SIM Nova Lite, which doesn't have 4G LTE support for Ting.

Can you confirm what style of button is on the back of your phone?
