for ting CEO or similar! please, save us from COMCAST etc, by provide internet coverage hub!
Answered

For ting CEO or whomever appropriate.
Hey, was just looking at this company, they seem to provide wireless wifi hub data from SPRINT, not at all clear at what speeds are etc
http://www.4gcommunity.org/ all hidden under some real or fake do good branding. claims unlimited non throttle.

So, this is NOT about them, this is an idea for ting.com
You already provide internet in some locations. You already have relationship with Sprint.
Would you consider provide a no nonsense wireless hub? Or would speeds just not be worth it compared to at home cable modem COMCAST internet?

  • And trying to answer my own question. Or is this sort of what you already offer with the Novatel Mifi-500?
Arrrgh, I so wanted ting.com to be our answers to cable monopoly.

  • Hey Matthew,

Are you referring to a mobile hotspot in general, similar to the Novatel Mifi-500?

The Novatel, for example, would be activated on Ting like any other device, but we would only charge you for data usage (and the $6 device line fee). http://ting.com/rates

I don't believe we are selling any hotspots right now, but if you can find one from a 3rd party source, you can likely bring it over to Ting. Just make sure it is compatible by checking out it' MEID number at http://ting.com/byod

If you were referring to something completely different, my apologies. Let me know!

  • Thanks Kim D. No, I was actually suggesting on a more new product service in theory level. Such as, there are multiple companies that strive to be all of your internet needs, but in wireless format vs cable. But as most such companies are too confusing in price/speed/tech/amount, to understand, yet hint at great things like unlimited non throttled, I was suggesting that perhaps be awesome if ting came to the rescue with a service for internet needs for those of use tired of our comcast or similar. If that is doable, with coverage, speed, price, I don't know, that is why I'm asking. And why suggested to get attention of ting CEO, thanks!

  • We do provide fiber internet to a few towns across the US at the moment. http://ting.com/internet

This is constantly growing and we have big plans for Ting Internet. Check out that link if you haven't already.

  • Hi Matthew, I'm a product manager at Ting.

Regarding offering a wireless based alternative to home broadband, I don't think we could do it. At least not right now. Mobile data rates are prohibitively expensive to the kind of usage that many people routinely throw at their home Internet plan.

As Kim mentioned, we've become a fiber-based ISP already, and while we're only offering service in a handful of towns at present, this is where we feel we can add the most value to the American ISP landscape.

  • Rob Lake and Kim D. thank you for answer. Is as I suspected. What I said in post was other services do offer wireless internet, yet are very vague hard to find info on speeds, caps and such. So I never did get solid answer, but seemed to find that was either unlimited very slow or ok speed but prices that would make impossible for anyone used to home cable modem (stream video likely being the biggest hog). Just thought I'd ask as I at least knew if TING did it, would be clear and honest.
