Using Wi-Fi at home. Charged?
Answered

I'm new to Ting. I was surprised to read that I would be charged when using wi-fi from home. I spoke with customer service to verify this. She kindly told me I could go to google-play and down load an app that would allow me free wi-fi with Ting. I haven't found it yet just thought I would share this. If someone finds the app before i do please post it here. Thanks

  • Hey Riondo,

We don't charge you for using your Wifi, that would be criminal.

Is there something specific you're trying to do when connected to your Wifi?

  • Now I'm confused. I read on your site a few days ago Ting does charge for wi-fi from home or other wise. I called support and they verified this. The person told me to go to google play to down load the free app so I could use wi-fi with Ting for free. I wish I had saved that but I found this on your site just a few minutes ago.

FAQ: Wi-Fi Calling on GSM Devices

    2. Am I billed for Wi-Fi calling?

Yes. Wi-Fi calls and texts are billed at the same rate as regular calling and text messaging.

So which is correct please? Thanks

  • We do not charge you megabyte usage when your device is connected to WiFi.
WiFi calling is different; if you are using WiFi calling we will still charge you for minutes used, like our website says (see what you copied and pasted).

Were you referring to WiFi calling specifically, or just connecting your device to WiFi and using megabytes?

  • You can make calls over Wifi using the Google Hangouts Dialer, check this link out for details:

Though this only works for outbound calls presently, inbound calls will still come through over the normal cellular network and would be charged like usual.
