Not receiving calls

Hello,

We have been with Ting for a while now. Both of us currently have Huawei Honor 5x phones (one is running the stock OS, the other has Linage OS on it). We have had no problems for most of the time. But in the last couple months we have repeatedly not received calls on the device. I've done a number of tests, calling from different phone numbers, and it randomly happens no matter which source I use.

We frequently get missed calls while holding the phone, with the phone on. The caller will hear it ring several times, but our phones will not ring. This was not happening until a couple months ago. Nothing has changed in the setup of our phones in the past couple months. Yet this randomly happens.

So, I would like to ask others on the Ting forums if they have had this happen and what the did to fix it? Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Hey Terry, sorry to hear about the intermittent service. We'll likely need to take a closer look at your account in order to do some further troubleshooting with you. If you get in touch with support we'll take steps to get things working for you.

  • Were you able to solve this problem? I recently switched to a Huawei Honor 6x and am having the same problem. Not ringing at my end and going straight to voicemail.

  • Hey Fiona, I took a look at your account and it appears that you've already reached out to support. Has the issue been resolved since?

  • Andre, we think so. Calls coming through have been rather random for the past few weeks so customer support helped me out last night and we are seeing over the next few days if it has been fixed. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the update, Fiona! Hopefully, things are up and running correctly now but if you run into any further issues feel free to reach out. :)

  • I am having the same issue of random calls not coming through. My call history shows no calls received, and my friend's call history shows many calls sent. Sometimes it goes straight to voicemail, but I never get a voicemail. Texting seems a bit more reliable. It's so problematic and pervasive that I think I might just switch carriers.

  • Although I have to say, I didn't seem to have this problem with my Samsung S5. It has been a problem ever since I switched to a BLU phone.

  • Hi Cynthia,

This sounds like it may be one of two things. It could have something to do with the frequencies in your area and what the phone is capable of picking up or if you switched from one network to our other network the coverage may be different. Since checking into this would require talking about some private information that we wouldn't want to put on a public forum like this I'm going to suggest reaching out to our customer support team by phone, email or online chat. We'll be able to look at your information there and determine what has caused the change in connectivity with your new Blu phone. We're open weekdays from 8 am to 1 am and on the weekends from 8 am to 11 pm. If you need our contact information it can be found here.

  •  I have Huawei Honor 5X and have had this issue of random calls not ringing, going straight to Voice Mail and never showing missed calls on my phone.    This has been happening since switched my service to Ting 6 months ago.     I've contacted customer service many times, done everything they suggested but it is still a problem.

I did not have this problem with my prior carrier, same phone.

  • Hi Karen,

Did they check what frequencies were being used in the area compared to what the phone is picking up? The Huawei Honor 5X has two versions that could work on our network (the USA version or the Canadian version) and depending on what which one you are using and what the towers are putting out in the area it may be that which is causing the connection issues.

  • As far as I know the frequencies has not been looked at.

  • It might be something for us to look into. Since we would need your location it would be best to reach out in private. If you send an email to help@ting.com one of the representatives can look into it to see if that factor can be eliminated. We use band 2, 4 and 12 on Ting with band 12 being the one that we would want to check to see if it is being used in the area.

  • I am also having this issue. It started a few months ago and I ignored it. Now my phone is having a hard time placing calls or keeping a call once it's connected. I've used Ting for more than three years and not had this problem until just a couple weeks ago.

  • Hi Rachel,

It sounds like this could be related to changes in coverage in your are as we have seen this before with devices that are not compatible with VoLTE on our GSM network.

You could reach out to support for help troubleshooting to verify if that is indeed the issue and they can help cover your options going forward to have the best call quality possible.
