Spotted Dog

Hi- My fire department uses the "Spotted Dog" text messaging system, but it simply does not seem compatible with Ting and I'm not sure why. It'll work for a while if we input "Tmobile" as the carrier, and then a few weeks later I'm the only one in the department not getting the alerts. Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Hi Jennifer,

It's hard to say why the "Spotted Dog" system is not working with us on a consistent base. There wouldn't be anything that would stop it from our end. Data is data to us so if you are able to use other applications or visit websites on your phone then the Spotted Dog should work fine. What I might suggest is contacting Spotted Dog support. There might be something they know to change so that the service would work properly.

  • Well that got figured out. The messages were being distributed via an "email to text" service, which Ting does not support. I was told that the provider had identified my fire department as "spam", and there is no way to permanently unblock it. Bummer!

  • Just an update- I *will* be sticking with Ting because I like it, and discovered I can receive dispatch alerts via email (which is secondary to my pager anyway). However, if you do discover a way to whitelist email-to-text senders, please let me know! It would be very helpful to me as a first responder. Thanks!
