Runaway alert

Yesterday, I happened to get a useage alert that my data had exceeded 953 mb. That alert worked fine. When I investigated, I found that one of my lines had used over 150 mb of data during that one day.

I've tried to setup periodic alerts at different intervals, but my fear is a Runaway device, meaning a device is using a lot of cellular data instead of wifi data as teenagers sometimes do.

If it is possible, I'd like to see a kind of "Runaway device" setting in which the rate of useage during the past 24 hours can be measured and I can be alerted.

For example, I'd like to have an alert that tells me whenever a device is using more than 10mb of cellular data within the past hour. Or an alert that more than 100mb of cellular data was used within the past 24 hours.

The useage alerts are fine for measuring the usage within a billing cycle, but not good for measuring high rates of usage during the past hour, or past day.

Please give this feature some thought and see what you can come up with.

I realize that this maybe impossible since you are an mvno and that you may be limited to the data provided by the cellular company.

  • Hey Patrick, thanks for sharing this feature idea with us. We definitely see the merit of having live usage stats and alerts on an hourly and daily basis. We are always trying to give users as much control over their account as possible so it's definitely something we've looked into. As you mentioned, our biggest barrier here is the fact that we're an MVNO so all our usage stats are delayed because they are recorded by our network partner and then sent to us. This makes doing hourly or daily alerts impossible for the time being. With that being said, we are still trying to find alternative solutions so I'll make sure to mention the interest in having more immediate alerts at our next feature meeting. In the meantime, I'd recommend utilising the Data Usage section within your phone's settings to see usage more accurately as it happens.
