How is Ting Dealing with Preventing this Kind of Fraud?

I just read this article about how one's cell phone number can be hijacked, leaving bank accounts vulnerable to theft. The scary thing is that it can't happen unless something goes wrong at the carrier. What is Ting doing to ensure that our phone numbers and information are safe and can't be ported out by a thief? I've been so pleased with Ting for over five years, and am assuming this is something the company is aware of, but it would be nice to hear details about how it's keeping its customers' phone numbers safe. Thank you!

  • Hey Erin,

This conversation does come up from time to time.

Your phone number and account security are something that we take very seriously here at Ting Mobile. We have Port-Out PINs that are near-impossible to guess, we train our customer support representatives on best practices for fraud and we make sure that you are in control of an account before releasing any information with the temporary PINs we send or the permanent PINs we ask for.

Those other posts that I linked to really go into depth in the situation but if you have any other questions please feel free to reach out and ask.

  • That was fast! Thanks for answering my question and allaying my fears. BTW, I was unable to access the two links since Safari couldn't "find the server hc." I'll try to access it from Firefox. Again, thanks for getting back to me on this.
