Ting service in the UK

Is Ting working internationally? We tried to call Scotland recently and got a message "insufficient funds". We're traveling there next week and would like to know if we can use our phones once we get there.

  • Hi Wade,

International roaming is an option on our GSM SIMs. There are additional rates while you will be in Scotland for calling, texting, and data which you should be aware of before you travel. I can link you to our international rates page here. You'll also want to make sure that International Roaming is enabled on your phone line. This feature can be turned on in your Ting My Account in the Device Settings section. You'll need to click on the edit button next to the phone number you are traveling with and then scroll down to the International Roaming section and make sure it is enabled. Its worth noting that you have to be a Ting customer for at least 3 months and have good standing with us to use roaming.

If you are on V1 you would not have roaming in Scotland. V1 SIMs only have international coverage in Canada and Mexico. If you are not sure if you are on GSM or V1 you can find that information in your Ting My Account in the Device Settings section.

As for that "insufficient funds" error that you were getting when you were calling I can send you our FAQ on international calling but it could be a couple of different things and would need some investigation from our support team. They can be reached by phone or online chat and can take a look to see if there are any issues on the backend that is giving you that error.
