Hey Sue! Typically this error springs up from not holding down the speed dial button assigned to the number you want to dial. For example, if I had Ting Support assigned to 2 as my speed dial, I'd want to hold down 2 for a few seconds on my dialer to begin the speed dial. If I were to press 2 and hit the call button, I would end up with an invalid MMI code error as the device thinks I'm just trying to dial 2 as a full mobile number. Hope this helps!
