Charge the cost of phones out over the first year....new plan.

I like the plans and the whole idea and I realize that you don't want to subsidize the phones, but it's hard to choke down 3 phones at $300 plus dollars each (plus the fees).  Could you offer a small contract plan that would allow users to pay the phones off in the first 6-12 months?  That would allow me to sign up now instead of 6-12 months from now......

  • Jason,

Great idea! I'm not sure how this would work however, due tot he fact that there is no contract with Ting. Meaning after a few months, you could cancel your plan, but now what happens to the device you never paid off? The only way I guess would be to lock users in to a 3-6 month period, in order to pay the device off. Though that idea alone goes against what the goal of Ting is.

  • Jason,

It's not a bad idea in principle and Jason's right about us. Trust me, you don't want to work with a cellphone carrier willing to finance a cellphone. You're much better off putting on a credit card and pay the 18% interest.

We like to think we're a bunch of nice guys and gals at Ting, but you know what happens when you borrow money from friends and family, right?
