More slider phones, please!

As of a few minutes ago, there are no Android phones with a physical keyboard available for sale.  If Ting had a phone that met my needs then I would move over from Verizon in a heartbeat, but not having a keyboard is a dealbreaker for me.  I really would like to have one phone available that is at least as capable as my Droid 2.

  • My wife's in the same boat. She's using my old Nexus S but absolutely hates the virtual keyboard. I've been looking at a Photon Q but most people still want an arm/leg for it on ebay. Slider phones are becoming harder and harder to find and it's a shame to "force" everyone to a smartphone when it isn't always needed.

  • Hi there Nathan,

We do have a device that, while it is a smart phone, has the sliding QWERTY keyboard. The Kyocera Rise is available for sale on Ting and of course available on Amazon and eBay for BYOD (just make sure it comes directly from Sprint only).

    I hope this helps!

  • Photon Q (and its Motorola cousins like the Verizon Droid 4) have arguably the best keyboard, bar none. In particular, if you type numbers (digits) a lot, the dedicated number row is invaluable. Photon Q's in good-to-excellent condition sell on eBay in the $125-$150 range regularly. I have both a Photon Q and a Samsung Epic (non-touch, a.k.a. Galaxy S 1), and the former's keyboard is in a whole 'nother universe over the latter.

  • Just an reminder re sliders:

Sliders are sometimes dismissed as holdovers from the feature phone days, or for SMS users only, but they can also appeal to heavy email users and advanced users using ssh, developers'  tools, etc. so the potential customer base for these should not be underestimated.
