Make phone size comparison shopping easier on ting.com/devices

You could do something like phone-size.com, and make it all fancy. Or, just have a picture of all of Ting's phones in a row, with a box of playing cards next to them for comparison.

But seriously, Ting.com/devices should do something to make comparison shopping on form factor and device size easier.

  • Most phones seem to be about the same size and what little they vary doesn't seem very significant to me.  What makes it significant to you?

  • They really do vary considerably. For example, the smallest device on ting has a 3.2 inch screen, while the S3 has a 4.8 inch display. The usability is different because on the 4+ inch devices, you really need to move the phone away from a full grip to use it with your thumbs, and I say that as a man with relatively big hands. It isn't that it's impossible, it's just less ergonomic.

It's definitely important and they do vary.

  • So, is it safe to say that the reason you want to know the size of the phone is that you're trying to figure out if you can operate it comfortably with one hand?

  • Definitely safe to say, yes. They do tell you the dimensions, but having a frame of reference would be nice. I'm of the opinion that phones are actually getting too big.

  • Would putting the dimensions of the phone in the device summary for each phone on ting.com/devices be sufficient, or do you think there needs to be some item (ruler, the aforementioned deck of cards, etc) pictured next to the phone to convey the size?

  • Our goal was to have a video series for each device showing you the unboxing and use of the main features. We've slipped on that recently and need to get better.

With the videos you get a real sense of what the phone is like in action.

    Great suggestions folks.

  • You can also use a site like  http://phone-size.com/ to see a comparison of different devices. I don't think they necessarily have every phone, but they do have a bunch.

  • Thanks for the feedback people. We're not planning anything specific to address sizing of the phones (other than the videos we already offer) so I'm marking this item as "not planned".
