New forum format

This forum is getting a little clunky.  There are so many "Standard" forum formats and with more and more users coming on board it seems to make sense to clean this up a little.  Just my 2 cents.

  • We are looking at some options. We are hoping we can just improve our current platform as opposed to having to migrate. Fingers crossed.

  • Hey Terrence,

When you say 'clean it up a little', can you elaborate on that? Are you looking for different categories, archiving of old posts? A re-organization of sorts?

It's good feedback, and with some more direction, we're happy to take action.

  • There is a format that a lot of websites use that is pretty standard.  An example would be www.pointguardu.com or my www.fishtank.net.  They seem to be a lot better organized.

When I go back and view a previously viewed thread/topic it takes me to the first unread message.  There are also usually sections for newbies.  I just upgraded my sons phone and signed up with Ting.  I will be migrating the rest of the family later in the year.  None of us have ever had data before so he is learning about smart phones and apps etc.  I tried to find a way to use GPS but everything in the manual and online shows I must have a Sprint ID to do this.  I'm sure there is an app to help but it takes quite a bit of research.  One of the topics in a forum could be titled "New Smart Phone User".  From the tone of Ting's website I have a feeling this is going to be a very close knit and helpful community.  I'm looking forward to being a part of it.

  • @T Evans:

To test GPS/Maps, install the following app:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.maps&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd

You just need to be connected to Ting data connection or WiFi.

No need for a Sprint ID.

  • Thanks Joe, appreciate the help.  Is this app like a TomTom GPS or similar that has voice turn by turn directions?  Thx.

  • You are welcome.

Yes, it is a fully functional Map, Driving directions with speech, Search Near By, etc.

In my opinion, it is better than the Sprint Nav app.

    Enjoy. . .

  • Does GPS enable use up a lot of data or just a lot of battery?

  • In my experience, it does not use up alot of data or battery.

I keep my GPS setting always enabled on my two year old Evo 4G.

It only uses battery when an app requires GPS info.

So, when you open up Google Maps, you will see the little GPS icon in the status bar.

I will say that the battery will drain significantly faster if a GPS app is running. Like Google Maps.

So, if I ever needs Google Maps Navigation, I always plug the Evo in into the car charger

For me, I always keep the GPS setting on.

It is best to try it and see how your battery life is.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks for the comments folks. We're not planning on changing our forum software but our provider is looking at adding some new features later this year so we're hoping we'll have more control over things in the future.

I'm closing this comment thread because it's kind of gone offer track from the original subject line and I don't want to confuse new folks. :)
