Bill instead of automatic debit

It's not a critical issue to me, but I would prefer it if Ting sent me a bill and allowed me to pay it by a certain date instead of auto-debiting my card on the billing date. The practical reason for this is I like to manage my bills in one place (for example, a bank's website). It's harder to do planning and managing of bills with auto-debits in the mix.

Another concern is that it's uncomfortable to be auto-debited and have no choice on how and when you pay. What if an emergency comes up and I need to put off a couple of bills because this paycheck needs to go to something more pressing? What if I have an issue that I need to discuss on my bill?

Ting's prices are certainly fair, and I have been fairly treated so far. This is why it's not a critical issue to me, but I've been burned by other cell companies, and auto-debiting now just feels uncomfortable.

  • Thanks for the feedback!

It's unlikely we'll start offering invoicing. It makes the whole business MUCH more complicated and risky for us and because of that would force us to add a lot of extra costs to the business that we'd prefer not to add if we can help it.

It doesn't quite get you what you're looking for but we're pretty sure we'll be adding an option for you to pay by "echeque" (i.e. automatic withdrawal from a bank account) for people that don't want to (or can't) pay with a credit card.

  • i was wondering if this  "echeque" feature had been added to ting's service yet. I am a soon to be ting customer and this would be much more convenient for me, as opposed to having an automated payment from a credit card.

  • Not at this time, no.

  • So there is absolutely no way to not have it auto debited? You can keep the card on file, but not let us choose a date to pay it? I've been really happy with my Ting service thus far, so this is really quite the let down to hear.

  • At the moment, no. Our billing system isn't currently set up to be able to handle any other options.

  • Andrew, understanding that the billing system is hard-wired to bill on the customer's bill cycle date, couldn't the customer still change their bill cycle date--that would only involve a pro-rate for the month of the change. That way the customer could have what they want: to choose the date that the bill is applied.

  • I have a similar issue to the OP. I recently joined Simple, an awesome online bank that makes lots of things a breeze, including managing recurring bills. So I'm trying to move all my bill payments to push from Simple instead of pulling from each individual biller's auto-pay or web portals. So far Ting is the only biller that won't allow me to do this. I'm enjoying the service and I'm very happy to support an indie cell provider but this minor inconvenience plus the major one of not having an unlimited data option have me continuing my search for a cell provider I can truly call home.

  • @Joshua The option to change the billing date has already been requested here. Feel free to add your +1.  Thanks for the feedback!

@Damien We're glad you're happy with our service and hope we remain the right fit for you.
