It would be nice if I could register additional email accounts to my account so that other members of my family could manage it. While this might be too much to code for the initial roll-out, it would be to have the option of setting various permission levels for these secondary accounts.
Multiple Account Logins for Ting
Comments
Thanks Tobias.
We have thought a lot about this and we can imagine scenarios where giving multiple "users" access to the account (and even various levels of permission) would be a good thing. But for now we're holding off as we're thinking it might be overkill.
I'll put you down as one vote in favor. Despite having marked this as "Not Planned" for now I'd still like people to "up vote" this if they think they'd REALLY use it and of course, as always, comments and suggestions are welcome.
Cheers,
Ken.
I would use it, especially with a formal API so I can hook up my own tracking and notification systems.
The specific scenario I have in mind is allowing individual phone users to track their own usage (e.g. family member who's not directly paying the bill), while only the account holder can see usage for the entire account or set limits on individual phones.
I would definitely use this. It's one of the things I like most about Verizon, how I am able to log in and check how many texts I have used for the month, even though I am not the account holder. Since no one in my family uses smartphones, this would be the easiest way to monitor minutes usage for the month.
Add another vote for this. (Two actually)
My wife and I are converting from Verizon and this is a feature of theirs that we will miss.
My wife and I would like to see this, too. Ideally, full access for both users.
This idea would be perfect for people who would like to get their kids on the same plan with them. I think this should get a higher priority. When I was talking to a family member about Ting, this was literally the only thing stopping them from joining (so they told me lol). They want their son and daughter to be able to check in on the buckets and make alerts, but not have quite full on access to everything on the dashboard.
I can understand the back end coding isn't as easy as a snap of the fingers, but I believe this is one of those small things that ends up meaning a lot to families who would like to pool devices together :)
I'd love to see this feature implemented so my kids could track their account usage, but not be able to disable my features or those of their siblings!
Hey David!
We are still looking for more hands up for this particular feature. It certainly would be a handy feature to have, that is for sure. As with all feature requests if there is a large enough base of customers who would want it, we will look into it and see what can be done.
I would love to see this done as well. Having multiple logins like we had back with Sprint would be very nice.
Yes, 3 up votes. One for me, my dad, and my girlfriend. I'm managing our account, and all they want to do is login and see their usage. It would be super nice if I could give them guest accounts, or limited permission accounts, or whatever you want to call them.
It is a feature that we have all used on other carriers in the past, I'm actually kind of surprised that you don't have such a system setup already!
+2 Here
Another +1 here.
Could you just make a new version of the Android app with reduced functionality? Maybe remove everything except the dashboard tab. So long as it protected my password, I wouldn't mind setting it up on my son's phone.
Obviously this wouldn't be a good answer for everyone, but it might be a (relatively) simple step in the right direction.
+4 here. My parents are brother are considering coming over to my account and are a little reserved because they wouldn't have their own account.
Oops: parents AND brother
Oops: they're a little reserved because they wouldn't have their own login account
+4 for us. It would be nice if other users could monitor the usage but not have control of the account at my level.
Vote in favor.
This would be an awesome feature! However, some limitations should be considered. For example, I have a phone on Ting and my fiancee has a phone on the same pool. Now I want to be in control of limits on my phone and on her phone, but I only want her to have the ability to make changes on her phone (my credit card is the one on file).
But besides that little bit of extra security, has this feature been discussed or anything on Ting?
Hi Stephen!
Thanks for the great suggestion. We're constantly working on making sure that your Ting account is both convenient to use and as secure as possible. We love and welcome constructive feedback like this :)
As someone who is about to join another person's service (presumably not on Ting) to my account, I was also curious if anything like this exists. In our case, I don't even care if she has full admin rights to the account - I just think it's strange that there can only be one set of "account info" per account... which means only one of our emails can be on file to get Ting news? Seems sort of silly ;). (I know you can set up notifications to any number of emails, I'm just talking about the email contact listed under "Account Info".)
Yes, I would like my daughter to be able to see her usage and perhaps modify her own settings, without giving her full access to the settings on all devices on the account. Basically, the main ID on the account should be able to delegate privileges to subsidiary accounts. I would think that any family who has multiple devices on Ting would want to use this kind of a feature.
Another two votes here. Disappointed to discover this isn't supported.
And +3 here. My ex-wife uses Ting, and our song uses it now on the phone we got him. To be able to show him his usage without his ability to change settings is a good thing.
+2 if we're counting users or potential users?
I have a related suggestion concerning voluntarily obfuscating some billing data over at https://help.ting.com/entries/28282096 , which I need to get around to posting here on the forums at Felipe S's suggestion - that's the inverse of the kid problem, where you want the "we're all adults here" treatment when gifting a relative with a phone and service.
[In that scenario, "Oh, and I can see every call you make" is a bit rude, whereas "Oh, and the way it's set up, it won't show me the numbers you called without your permission, and it'll message you if I ever change that" is reassuring - and from Ting's perspective, usage-encouraging.]
I want. + as many votes as I have. My wife and I use the account and would rather not share username and password.
I don't need to worry about having different levels of "permissions" on the account, since I share it with my spouse who already knows my personal info anyway. But, having a way for multiple people to log in to the shared account would be nice. Since the billing method encourages group rather than individual accounts so that the devices share usage, you should expect that there are multiple people (and therefore multiple email addresses) per account.
Ken, this feature request is 3 years old and still nothing....even after all these comments. I think it is quite obvious that TING has NO intention of making this happen. Like you said...it was never a part of your plan and therefore after three years i am concluding never will be. I can't believe you actually think we are a bunch dummies that can't figure out permissions. What a waste of a good app.
UP votes here for my family...
Add another 3 votes for this. We'd even be happy with having multiple email addresses receiving notifications.
Another Plus vote from me.
