Dashboard time zone same as account time zone

Is it possible to have the times listed in the dashboard (call log, text log, etc) match the time zone that the account is based in?  For example, I'm in Eastern time, but all my activity is displaying in Central time.

(I was trying to figure out how I managed to text someone before I woke up, but when I looked at the time stamp on the phone compared to the log, I figured it out)

  • Oddly enough we were talking about this on Friday. I think it's a smart idea. We'll put it on the To Do list but no promises as to when you might see it.

    Thanks.

  • The times in the dashboard are not correct.  I have the LG Optimus and I cannot change the time zone so I am assuming it it defaults to whereever it is at.  Text messages are logging times that are 1-2 hours off.  How can I fix this?

  • Jason, if you're referring to the Dashboard times, they're currently all Central Time. We are planning to make this adjustable in the future but we don't have a timeframe right now.

If you're referring to your phone, however, please give us a call or email so we can troubleshoot that with you.

  • I would appreciate this as well.  It just makes sense. If You're going to show a time of activity, it should coincide with the time zone the customer lives in.

  • Not much of an update.

This is a good idea and still on the backlog of things we'd like to do but not a high-priority right now. The big changes coming in the next while will mostly be about making it easier for new customers to join us. We'll loop back to the Your Account section to incorporate a whole bunch of smaller changes like this at some point later in the year.

+1s from others who would like to see this are of course helpful and appreciated.

  • Hi - new to Ting. I'd like to see this as well when you have an opportunity.

I am on Pacific Time and noticed that phone calls are listed in the correct time zone and data usage is based on Central time. I have SMS turned off since I am using GV.

If I have the scenario above correct does that mean my billing cycle ends at midnight (PT) on the last day for voice and 10pm (CT -2) for data?

Last, on the dashboard page where is says "Your current billing cycle ending in xx days is at...". It appears to decrease the day number around 5pm for me. Is that number calculated using UTC?

  • R E, that does sounds rather curious. I'm going to send you an email to follow up on this.

  • I haven't paid any attention to billing cycle or data session timing, but calls being in Pacific and SMS being in Central is normal for me too. I also had this with another Sprint MVNO, so I've just been assuming it's the way it gets reported to you and you'd fix it along with everything else.

  • It looks like voice and data take different routes as far as logging goes, so that would explain why they're logged in different timezones, but the 5pm changeover is odd so I'm investigating that.

  • Any update on this planned feature?  I thought I heard that some dashboard improvements were on their way.  I am hoping this is one of them.  Thx

  • ^ bump ^

New to Ting as I've put my son on Ting as the "guinea pig".   Going fairly well overall, though I am surprised that the log for texts and calls do not coincide with our time zone (EST).  I would think this would be a higher priority as it really is an understated of its importance for those that need to keep closer tabs on the account.  Please look to elevate this on your priority list!

    Thanks.

  • I'd like to see this feature too - I was quite upset at my child texting at 2AM until I realized that the timestamp timezone was different and so it was really "only" 12AM.

  • It's been 2.5 years since this topic was first posted.  Doesn't seem that it's much of a priority for Ting.

  • A couple of months ago I had to contact support checking to see if they fixed the issue as I was wondering why my child was texting past his curfew. Tech support kept directing me back to my phone which I knew was not the case because I have been tracking this issue for over two years and thought they would have fixed it by now...well...the employee was not aware of the issue and it is obvious that it still has not been fixed.

A little frustrating but...we move one.

  • I'm actually really frustated by this-- I'm a new customer and so far have had a great experience with Ting except for this ugly wart. It's an obvious bug with trivially easy fixes, has attracted a fair amount of attention in the forums, and the lack of attention is basically telling me that Ting doesn't listen; even if all Ting did was add a little "CST" label next to all of the time stamps on their web site that aren't in my time zone then I could at least be sure what time zone it was in. But showing the end user a time that is not their local time and is not labeled with what time zone it is, is definitely a bug.

  • It's better than Sprint, though, that marks all my voice messages in Hawai'i time because my phone has the Hawai'i area code. Gotta be on top of your game when you get a voice mail from your child from a school number and Sprint time stamped it at 4:30 a.m. when you know there's no way your child was there 3 hours early. I haven't been in Hawai'i for years, except for 10 days. They all have quirks. I'll take Ting's prices and customer service for the price any day.
However, having to verify by email every time I call, when I rarely check that email as I'm reliant on a neighbor's wifi, is a hassle. If I can give you all my private details that should be enough. Maybe set up a pin that I tell you like Sprint.
Or just ask me for all the numbers in my account. I have relative's numbers who are 300 miles away. How would anyone else know that?!

  • 5 years later, and it's still not done. Is there a reason why this request is so difficult to implement?

  • Hi Eric, no update on this right now. I have a meeting with our feature team on Tuesday. I'm going to bring it up and see what has happened with this and what was looked into on it. I'll reply back here with an update on it mid next week.

  • Hi Eric, so just got back from the meeting and we are going to be looking into this. It seems like it is possible but it'd be a matter of pulling the correct time stamp from the system. I also found out that the reason it shows Central Time is that is when our system resets the day for everyone. I'll keep everyone in the know when I learn more!

  • I see further problems here - I'm just looking in the dashboard at times (I'm in the central time zone) - If i look at my times for phone calls they are correct (dashboard and phone show the same time).  If, on the other hand I look at messages - they are off by 5 hours - e.g. received message at 14.29 - dashboard shows message time of  19.29 - i.e 5 hours later than it should be.  Why is dashboard time showing GMT for messages and central time for phone calls?

  • Hi Steven,

That shouldn't be happening like that. I'm wondering if you could do us a favor and submit a service request with some photos showing this so that we can look into this deeper.
