Alert on estimated usage

Ken Vincent

I like the alerts on minute, messages and data.  But one thing i would like to see is the ability to set alerts based on the estimated monthly usage that is calculated on the dashboard.   The ability to set alerts on this number would let me know earlier in the month if my average daily usage is too high.  That would give me plenty of time to modify my behavior.

Example:  If i set an alert  for 900 meg of data and it alerts me on the 20 day of my billing cycle that i am over 900 then i have less then 100 meg left for the next 8-10 days.  But if i could set the alert on estimated usage i would likely be alerted much earlier in the month that i am on track to overshoot my budget of 1000 meg per month.  That might prevent me from going over, or having to turn off data for the last few day of the billing cycle.

Why not just add multiple alerts. One half way. One at three quarters etc. If your usage is more than half your expected by the middle of the billing period and so on.

I do the multiple alerts thing. The trend line in the Android OS is pretty nice, though for a dashboard. It might be nice to have the option for an alert if such a trend line existed on the website dashboard and went over a threshold by the end of the billing cycle. It would make it a bit more complicated, though since its hard to choose the right amount of data to base it on. I'm curious how Android does it, though. It works pretty well. Even Android doesn't have alerts or limits based on the trend line, though.

Thanks so much for the feedback Peter! I can promise you that it will be looked at.

A simpler tradeoff might be alerts and limits which only trigger if a certain threshold is reached *before* a specified date. For example, using more than half of a package before half of the Billing period has passed. Or a quarter, or three quarters, etc. before that much of the Billing period is over.

I don't see any options for setting alerts for texts in the app. Am I missing something here?

Hi David!  Yes, if you go to Alerts, you can create one for any feature on any phone on your account.  The exact process differs between the Android (drop-down menu) and iPhone (Alert button at the bottom of the screen) apps, but both have the ability to set Alerts for Minutes, Messages and Megabytes.  You can't set an Alert for a feature a phone doesn't have, though.  If you need assistance, please get in touch!
