Built in "phonebook" on your web Ting account.

I am not sure the best way to describe this is but here goes.  When you are looking at your phone calls or texts it shows the number (777)555-1234 I am thinking instead of just showing that number could you allow each user to have their own "phonebook" on their account so we could put in key words or descriptions so we know that number?  For example now you see (777)555-1234 now as a number I sent a text to.  My thought is that I could put an entry into my "phonebook" on tings site to say that is Joe's number and the next time I look at my log it will say Joe's number instead of (777)555-1234.  Does this make sense?  Please let me know thoughts!  Thanks

  • The unofficial Ting Usage app on the Android Market can do this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ogd3.ting&feature=search_result

  • Thanks for the info, that will be helpful on my phone.  Is there anything on the standard Ting site that does this?

  • I'm not aware of one there so far.

  • I think this would be an nice addition to the Ting web page.  Looking at the comments for the play store app one user put it right: "No more guessing as to "who's number is that?".  We will wait to see if anyone from Ting support responds.  Thanks

  • Thanks for the suggestion Michael. I can't say whether that's something which will ever be implemented or not, but we'll definitely take it into consideration.

  • Thanks for the reply Andrew!  I think it would be a great feature, I find myself looking over my ting dashboard and being like, wow who did I talk to for X minutes.  The I look at the number and I am like who is that??  Then I fumble to find my phone and compare who it is.... :)  Thanks!

  • I've had the same desire, except that I don't particularly want to maintain multiple phonebooks, so I was trying to figure out the best form this suggestion could take. Linking it to Google Contacts would be cool, though it wouldn't be sufficient to cover what I'd want to show up.

  • We're looking at adding better address book integration (and even the ability to call people) from within your Ting control panel when using the Android app version of Ting.

Getting the data onto the website to manage looks like it will be more work than it's worth. But on your phone we think we'll be able to make the phone experience more tightly integrated with your actual phone experience.

  • Awesome!  It's great to hear there could be progress and our suggestions are being heard.  Thanks Ting!

  • Oh, Ken, that's a good idea and probably very doable from within a phone app, since it would have access to your contacts, while the website wouldn't.

  • My usage scenarios involve feature phones, so an Android app (while awesome) still won't quite cover it for me :)
