Why is the Hover discount restricted to the first phone on an account?
Answered

As a long-time Hover customer I got your promo e-mail today advertising a discount on a phone. Now, as a recently new Ting customer I have one phone, full price, but was tempted to use the discount for a phone for my wife. Your site rejects the discount because I already have one phone. I can understand restricting the discount to one phone, but not why it should apply to a first phone on an account only? The e-mail offering the discount puts no such restriction on it. Why not honor the offer as you've made it? Why is this restricted to first phones and not second phones, when both are equally likely to generate account use and profits for you? If you want to restrict the offer as you have, it would be far better to state the restrictions up front rather than waiting until a customer selects a phone to disappoint and withdraw the offer.

  • Hey Whit,

The promotion was around getting new customers to try out Ting.

I just looked at the promotion email again and you're right... it doesn't mention anything about the discount applying only to the first device until you actually click the link and get to the Ting website. We could have been more clear in the email before you got to the website. I'm really sorry about that.

We'll try harder in the future,

  • What is the Hover discount?  I have a domain at Tucows and would like to see if any discount might apply now that I am a Ting customer.

  • The discount was on your first device purchase, not on service.
