HTC Detail no more?
Answered

I was planning on getting the HTC detail now that my contract is nearly up, but I see it is not on the devices page anymore.  Is it gone for good?

  • I do not know why TING dropped the HTC but possibly it is due to the demands or pressures of Sprint.  Sprint and TING also might be just making room for the newer LTE products coming down the road. There is a more sinister issue at work though. Google Sprint HTC and APPLE and you will be able to read the tons of news articles written about the ongoing war that Apple (pre and post Steve Jobs) has with HTC. Not just over intellectual property but on a slimy, greasy, megalomaniacal, personal level that Steve Jobs started. This whacko legacy of his continues too under the new leaders sadly. One of the many reasons I have always hated Apple and Jobs. Jobs makes Gates look like a saint in comparison. Seriously! Do your research and you will be shocked.

Below is an article on the delay of the HTC EVO LTE for Sprint....which affects TING.

  • Sadly, it's true. The HTC Detail is indeed gone for good. The devices we carry will change pretty regularly based on new models being released, changes in technology, pricing and availability.

We're in a transition period right now (from 4G via Wimax to 4G vis LTE) and that might cause a little more flux than we'd normally expect to see.

That said, Sprint has been a great partner for us. When Ting wins, Sprint wins.

  • Ken,

Any chance on commenting on or providing a news/forum section on upcoming tech/phones to TING? I was about to upgrade from the Optimus to the Conquer...but if an LTE phone close to the price of the Conquer comes out in 2 months...it would kill me! lol I am sure others would like some kind of 'tech news' updates as well.

  • Hi Brian,

I get your desire for a hint of what might be coming but we're a bit reluctant to give specifics at this point. This is part of us still being in the early stages of Ting. We're still getting comfortable with when we can comfortably make a commitment to customers about phone availability. We're not there yet. And we REALLY don't want to say something is going to happen and then not have it happen!

So, allow me a bit of hand waving...

It is unlikely we'll be adding anymore Wimax phones. We'll have LTE phones "soon" but right now I can't tell you with any confidence what "soon" means. Once the LTE phones start coming in we'll see new devices added at a quicker pace than we seen so far.

We just added the white version of the Galaxy S II and we'll be adding a few dumb feature phones in the next few weeks.

I know that's probably not the level of detail you'd like but that's where we're at. I could make some stuff up about when we're getting what phone and post that, then tell you things changed, but that doesn't really make sense, so it's not "the Ting way". :)

    All the best.

    Ken.

  • Ken,

Sure, I was hoping for more details...but you did pretty good. I will patiently wait to upgrade until I see newer models. I hope you guys will make announcements as soon as you possibly can. Not because we are an impatient bunch (yes, we are...lol) but because we need to make intelligent purchase decisions.

    Thanks!

  • I'm actually willing to buy a new phone to get away from Sprint, even though my current phone would work just fine with your service if only Sprint allowed it (where is DOJ and RICO when it matters to me?). But I really am pretty set on HTC. I had wanted to get the HTC Detail. Now I'm pretty much stuck until you get another HTC. The Detail seems like a small step down to me from my old Hero, but these other phones seem like an even bigger step down. I guess I should just get used to the fact that the "unwashed masses" don't care about the same things that I do. But with a million phones on the market, you'd think there'd be at least one that would cater to my needs.

  • @ Brian Z

Reading this May 18th article about HTC might clue you in to the major dilemma that screws us all.

  • I just found this thread via Google. I ordered 2 HTC Detail phones from Ting last week and received & activated them this week.

I guess Ting does not really know if a phone has been discontinued.  I almost settled for the Transform Ultra.

If others are lucky, perhaps the Detail will reappear.

  • Any chance of any more HTC Details appearing for sale? Are 4G WiMAX phones still being produced by manufacturers?
