Phone lock-in

Are Ting phones locked into the Ting network?  That is, if I want to leave Ting, can I take my phone with me and use it with a different provider?

  • Apologies for the delayed response. Ting phones are Sprint phones as we are an MVNO reseller of Sprint service. Phones are therefore locked to the Sprint network. If you wanted to take a Ting phone and move to Sprint, our understanding is that it's possible but that Sprint may drop a hefty fee on you.

  • I have a GSM phone that I brought to ting unlocked. When I leave ting (because I use too much data and need a plan to support that), will my phone be able to work with the AT&T network? Is my phone now locked to ting?

  • Hi Alexis,

The phones we sell are unlocked and we do not lock the phones that activate with our service so you will be able to still take that phone and probably port the phone number as well to AT&T.

  • Hi Carl,

Phones purchased from the Ting shop are unlocked. The comment from 2012 is from when we first started up and a lot of things have changed since then.
