Getting "Credit Card was not approved" Error Message
Answered

I am trying to order a phone but I am getting "Credit Card was not approved" error message.  I have tried 2 credit cards and got the same error so I know it's not my credit cards.  I do however have a different Shipping Address.  Could this be the cause of the error?  I checked my credit cards and they both have number $1 pending transactions on them.  Is there an issue with Ting's credit card system?

Thanks,

Oliver

  • There can be different causes for this (the normal one is the billing address you entered not being exactly, character-for-character, the same as the address on your credit card bill (up to and including an apartment number being on the wrong line).

I see you emailed us about this so I'll get back to you shortly on this one via email.

  • I am about to give up here, I entered in the exact address listed on my Credit Card, I went to my Credit Card account to copy exactly whats listed. This has been very frustrating as I am excited to use Ting's service, but unfortunately I cannot even order.  I even called your customer service and the person was a bit brash and I did not feel confident of him taking my order down as he kept making mistakes.

  • I'm getting this same problem... Is there another reason why it's not working?

  • I have no idea why it didn't work, they didn't give me a reason, but I ended up ordering it by calling up Andrew using a different credit card.  Even his system didn't accept my credit card.

  • I'm having the same issue as above, plus the number listed (855.846.4389) to contact Ting is giving me a "your call cannot be completed as dialed" error message. I've been trying since late last week to order some phones and get going with Ting, but the start has not been as seamless as I hoped.

  • Looks like this issue is becoming more prevalent.  I am getting ready to order another device next month and I hope this issue will be resolved soon.  I rather not do the workaround by calling in my order as there could be human error over the phone entering addresses and such....

  • I'm having the same "Credit Card was not approved" problem with my order today. I tried five different credit cards and tried several permutations on the billing address ("Ave" versus "Avenue", adding the extra 4 digits after my zip) with no luck. I've submitted a help ticket about this.

  • I'm having the same problem -- does it mean that i would have to go thru lots of calls every month to get payment processed? It's making me wonder about the service overall...

  • Hi Karla,

Once we're able to get the card saved in our system there shouldn't be any problems from month to month. The most common cause of having trouble saving the credit card info has to do with the way your address is entered (it has to be exactly as listed on your credit card statements: ie., if there's an apartment number on a second line then that part of the address has to be on the second line in our system as well, for instance). I see Katie's helping you out, but double-check your credit card bill as it could be as simple as something like that.

  • same issue even with card saved to account

  • Same issue and the previous card that was used to setup the account was charged.  I expressly asked that the credit card information was updated so that that previous card would not be charged but you guys charged it and the system will not update the info for the new card.  I have filed a dispute with my credit card company because you guys don't seem to have this figured out yet.

  • Thanks for those who replied on my question about monthly billing issues related to the credit card system - I think I'll hold off switching until this issue is resolved.

  • In general, the usual cause of new credit card info not getting accepted has to do with the address not being entered exactly as it's listed on one's credit card statement. I'd suggest that anybody who still has trouble getting it entered after checking that should give us a quick call as we can try it out with them over the phone.

  • I just hit the submit button 3-4 times and it worked eventually. Got 4 or so denied and then it eventually went through.

There's also some weirdness with the form not accepting middle initials as they appear on the card. My card has a middle initial with a period after it, and the Credit Card form won't accept that.

  • I was excited to get started with ting, but see this problem is still around. I need to buy 3 phones. It gave me the credit card problem as well. I submitted around 10 times and it finally went through for the first phone. I'm now trying to buy the second phone and again it's being denied. I have zero clue what the problem is since I've already bought one. I called customer service who were useless. Just read from a script and really were no help. I'm not abanding ting just yet as I really do want to give them a shot, but how can I when it won't let me buy the other two phones? Help

  • After about the hundred or so try I finally got the purchase to go through. I hope the rest of the service runs better then this. You guys should really look into this problem. It can be very upsetting and make people jump ship before they even try you. I'm going to stay the course and hope all works well. looking forward to your service.

  • I tried 4 times. Your system says denied but I show 4 $1.00 charges on my credit card. The reason it's not working for me? The address I'm sure. I'm putting it in correctly. Your system is shortening South to S.

  • I ordered a phone last weekend (new customer) and my first credit card was denied and I"m certain there is nothing wrong with it.  Used a 2nd card and it accepted it.  I hope I don't discover several $1.00 charges to the first card, as I tried a handful of times.

  • The $1.00 charges are only Auth charges to test the card. They're not actually posted to your card, and will vanish from your online statement. On occasion, we're able to enter the credit card info successfully when a customer can't, so we'd suggest anyone having trouble giving us a call.

Kim, I'll follow up with you personally.

  • I just sent in a request for this very issue.   I am having the same exact problems.   I get the error message: Credit Card was not approved. 4220545.   Any Ideas?   From reading, Ive tried what has been suggested (minus calling, because of what time it is).   Im positive I entered everything in correctly.   I did it like 20 times (no joke).   Help would be awesome!   Thanks!
