LG Marquee

Is the one you have available all black in the back like the one on Boost or does it have the shinning back like the one on Sprint?

  • Good question. We don't actually have any in stock yet, so I can't check for you, but I'm told that it's most likely the Sprint version. We'll know more once we receive the shipment of them ourselves though.

  • I've actually just been informed that it looks like we'll be getting the black "Boost" version after all.

  • Any update on when these will start shipping?  I ordered two last weekend.

  • They started shipping yesterday, but there was an issue in getting all the orders into our notification system. It is likely your devices left our warehouse yesterday, but we have not yet sent you tracking number. We expect this to be rectified today. Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • @Thabata Erickson

I did some looking and there doesn't seem to be any active custom ROMs being developed for the Marquee. If I find anything I will update.

  • Jon,

I have not looked deeply, but there are indications [http://androidforums.com/marquee-all-things-root/481957-lg-marquee-all-things-root-guide.html] that there are ROMs for the Marquee. Undeniable Marquee seems to e the one mentioned most.

  • Yes there are custom ROMs available but they aren't in active development. Most don't have a long development history so I would look very carefully before committing to one. If you can't fix a problem with one of these ROMs who will. I would look at Rooting and perhaps a theme rather rhan a full fledged ROM,

After you have had it a few days would you mind posting a mini review. This looks like a good choice for those looking for a low cost modern looking Android.

Ditto Zarthan request.  Curious about it's functioning and battery life.

  • Two days with the Marquee.  On Wifi this phone is amazing.  Fast, cheap, sound quality is great.  Battery life seems good.  I had the sync off all day today, and battery was only 80% after 5 hours.  (I didn't touch the phone much though)

Android 2.3.4 is perfect.  This phone has 2.7GB of internal storage. (WOW!)  I put a 8GB SD card for music and podcasts.

Still waiting to see how much the Ting bill will be.  Once that is confirmed, the wife and I will cancel our Sprint contracts and jump to TING FTW!

  • Had my Marquee for 2 days and the only problem I'm having is the battery...it won't last 2 hours...I charge and after an hour or so it'll start beeping because it's out of juice, totally empty. I checked to see what's draining and it says the "cell stand by" is using 47% and the "phone idle" is using 45% of the battery. Also the battery is not an original from LG so IDK if it's because it's a generic is giving me that problem. Also I can't find a way to change settings like sleeping mode or battery saver type of things....if anyone knows please let me know how!

  • I actually just sent in a request about the battery on the Marquee I received yesterday.  The battery only lasts a couple hours until it's completely dead, even if I don't use the phone during that time.  Other than that it seems like a good phone... I've never bought refurbished before, so I don't know if this is normal but I received the phone with damage to one corner- kind of like deep scratch marks like it had been dropped onto concrete at one point, and there was no manual or user guide or anything that came with the phone.  I'm not very bothered by the scratches and the lack of a manual, but I really hope they send out a new battery.

  • Ting knows that users are experiencing some issues with refurbished phones. They have remove all refurbished phones from their Devices page.

Ben from Ting has said they should have some announcement about this around noon on 10/26/12.

I so not think he mentioned battery issues, though, I would give Ting support a call after they open to open a ticket to document your issue.

  • I received my refurbished phones on Wednesday but have not activated them yet because I am traveling. I tracked down the user manual and USB drivers at http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-LGLS855. However, I am still not having any luck with the USB connection between the phone and a computer. Although the phone battery will charge, the USB icon does not appear in the notifications area, and drive E: appears on the computer but is not accessible, so I cannot transfer any data between the two. Please advise; I will probably continue to hold off on activating my Ting service until this is resolved.

  • When I plugged my USB in something popped up that asked me to select "Charge only" or "Connect as storage" and then a box to click that says "always ask".  So if that "always ask" box was unchecked on your phone, you probably have to go into your settings to find what I think should say "Turn on USB storage".  My usb connection didn't work until I changed the setting to "connect as storage", so that could be your problem.

  • Just got the refurbed LG Marquee, and activated it last night. So far, so good.

Is there a way to remove the "Sprint ID" button near the bottom of the phone, and set it to something else, like messaging?

  • Mariah: I am not getting that pop-up even though "Mass storage" is set as the default and the "Always ask" box is checked.

I just had an online chat with LG's technical support. As it turns out, the problem is simply that there is no microSD card installed in the phone; "For data integrity and system stability reasons, the phone's internal memory can not be mounted as a removable drive on the computer." I was actually surprised when I received the refurbished phone to discover that it did not come with a microSD card, because I expected it to have one just like a new phone would, and there was no indication anywhere that it would not. This is something that Ting should probably make clear on the device page.

  • Jon,

You may want to call Ting support. There have been many issues with Ting's refurbished phones. This may be another unexpected problem.

Ben from Ting mentioned yesterday that we should expect some sort of announcement today. probably around noon Eastern Time.

  • Bruce: Where did Ben from Ting mention that? Where would such an announcement be posted?

  • Look at the answer in this thread.

Actually, Ben said he would follow up. Since his posting I have seen other suspicious issues mentioned too.

  • Actually, Ting pulled all refurbished phones off their Devices page after Ben's posting. That means the problem may not be just restricted to the phone model he mentioned.

  • @Jon Schmidt

Someone from the Ting team will communicate directly with those affected.

  • Thabata Erickson- my battery usage reads almost the same- 46% cell standby and 39% phone idle.  Customer support sent me this link to try some battery conserving settings.  I did all of the things they suggested, and I'll give it time to see if it helps.  But so far I haven't seen a difference.
