Is the one you have available all black in the back like the one on Boost or does it have the shinning back like the one on Sprint?

  • I am in contact with a rep from Ting.  They suggest replacing the phone.  I'm going to do it (depending on the steps that need to be taken) and hope it comes with a better battery.  I don't want an extended battery as no cases will fit & I don't want a bigger, heavier phone.  I've installed juice defender & the power widget.  Doesn't make any difference.  I'm running a test on mine now.  Fully charged & left on at 11:55am cst.  Will check it every couple of hours.

  • Yeah, my battery improved with that app for the first two days or so and is now back to being terrible.  Also, my data connection keeps turning itself off, does anyone know anything about that?  I'm around wi-fi most of the time but when I'm not, I have to go in and manually turn data on every time, is that normal?

  • Are you still using that battery app? It may be causing the data to stay off. I've tested various battery apps now, and they all are terribly confusing when it comes to how they manage the wifi and data connections. I had to turn my data on today manually as well. Not sure if it was the battery app or not.

  • After sitting overnight, (about 7-8 hrs) my Marquee is about at 80% charge.  I have an LG Optimus Elite that does pretty much the same.  Since these are my first "smart phones" does that sound about right?

  • What settings are you using? Do you have any battery optimizer applications? I don't think there is anyway mine can sit 7-8 hours and have 80% charge left.

  • wi-fi set to never sleep. No optimizer apps.  I'll do some more checking.  I think one night I turned it to airplane mode.

  • Yeah, that's about what my Opitmus got but no way would my Marquee have that much charge left.  Pretty much it's dead every morning when I wake up even after being fully charged at night.  I think the deal is that we were given cheap batteries.  A LG battery says "LG" on it, these don't.

  • When I checked my phone this morning at 8am, it still had 32% battery life!  So, I plugged it in when I got to work.  Fully charged, looked at it an hour later, already at 90%.  Lost 10% charge just sitting there.  :(  I am being sent a new (refurbished) phone.  :)   There's definately something wrong with them, sounds like ALL of the refurb. Marquees are having the same problem.

FWIW, I don't blame Ting for the issues I'm having with this phone.  I will question whether or not I ever buy another refurbished phone (from anyone), I mean, it was returned for some reason, right?

  • I doubt being refurbished has anything to do with it. I've seen on many different Android forums, users of this phone complain about the battery life. I think there are some of us though that are experiencing even shorter than expected battery life.

I took my phone off the charger at 9 AM. At 4 hours and 49 minutes later, the phone is at what looks to be 50%. I have only used it to send 2 text messages and auto sync is off. I will see how long it can go before it is dead. It usually drops from 50% to 0% quickly.

  • Karl, a suggestion. It would help to put actual numbers to the battery state of charge.  That battery symbol isn't very accurate.  You might go to settings, about phone, status and see what your battery level is.   I'll try another test tonight.  Things like having syncing on, data enabled, etc can affect your drain, along with different apps.  Perhaps we should put the phones in airplane mode when trying to compare usages. Otherwise we are comparing apples and oranges.  Any other suggestions from anyone?

  • Yes you are correct about the actual numbers for the battery level. I looked under battery usage but did not see it. I forgot it is in the status screen. Currently my battery is at 19%. I have not used the phone anymore since the 2 text messages I sent this morning. I saw it drop from 21% down to 19% while just checking the battery usage.

    Battery time:

    5 h 49 minutes

  • Now I am already down to 17%. It is dropping fast now.

  • At 3:20 PM the phone died.

    Battery time:

  • So Battery time means the amount of time it has been running on one charge?  I saw that before but couldn't figure out if it meant that or it was estimating how much time you had left.

  • Yes that was the amount of time the battery lasted at the percentage level left. So it lasted 6h and 17m on standby before it died. I did not make nor receive any calls. Wifi was left one, 3g was off. Autosync was turned off. I got a few alerts for email and Google chats throughout the day, but I did not use the phone to send or check emails nor chat.

  • I am re-posting this from another Marquee thread:

I did a little experimenting with my two phones, a LG Optimus Elite and a LG Marquee,  here are the results.

Both fully charges at night then placed in airplane mode overnight. After 8 hours:

    Elite - Battery 100% charged

    Marquee - Battery 92% charged

In the morning both phones are then set: airplane mode off, data off wi-fi on, mobile network off (no 3G data) & sync off.

After another 3 hours: (11 hours after charged)

    Marquee - Battery 94% charged

Elite - Battery 100% charged  (doesn't make sense?)

After another 3 hours:  (14 hours after charged)

    Marquee - Battery 89% charged

    Elite - Battery 94% charged

Another 3 hours:  (17 hours after charged)

    Marquee - Battery 76% charged

    Elite - Battery 87% charged

    Battery use: Marquee:  cell standby - 40%   phone idle - 34%  display - 11%  maps - 9%  wi-fi - 6%  android os - 2%

Elite:          cell standby - 34%   phone idle - 27%  display - 7%                            wi-fi - 34%                        (the Elite was being used more to check emails and some browsing on wi-fi)

Neither phone was used for calls or texts during the day.  Not meant to be a perfect test, since both phones weren't used exactly the same but close.   Not sure how accurate these phone's figures are.

  • James Markham,

When you replaced your battery with the extended batter and cover, were you able to find any cell phone cases to fit your phone?

    Thanks.

  • Alice, With the extended battery, the phone is a little over 1/2 inch thick. I have not looked for a case, simply because it would make the phone even thicker.

  • Thanks James for answering so quickly.

I wonder if I could find one of those ...rubber-like 'skins' to cover it (to keep from scratching up the case) ?

I suppose I'd have to actually measure it and hope to find one that fit ...or, has anyone tried to replace one of the batteries that has been sent with the refurbished phones with a new battery ?

Maybe it's just the batteries that are being sent with these refurbished phones from Ting that are not good?  Has there been a problem with the regular phones (keeping a charge) that are not refurbished?

  • Alice, since we never sold the Marquee as a new phone, we wouldn't be able to make that comparison. If you had the Marquee, and you had concerns about the battery life or any other aspect of the phone, I would encourage you to contact us about that so we could see about troubleshooting that with you.

  • Hi Rob,

I did a little researching on a new LG Marquee, and from what I've found, Benchmarks for continuous talk time is approximately 5 hours 40 minutes (PC Mag review) and 348 hours (max.) of standby (or idle) time, but most are saying that the max for continuous talk time is actually about  2-3 hours. Short battery life seems to be a known problem with this phone.

I haven't received my phone yet from Ting, but have already purchased an extended battery for when it gets here. Reviews on the phone from those using an extended battery have been good.

I don't live on my phone and don't care much if it's thin or 1/2" thick. As long as it works when I need it to is what is important to me. If I have any problems with the phone when it gets here, I'll be sure to contact Ting and let them know.

  • Just an update on power usage.

My Marquee was 100% charged last night when I went to bed.  Data was turned off but Wi-fi was left on. Eight hours later it was at 91% charged.

  • I am having battery issues also.  Yesterday morning I took the Marquee off the charger at about 7AM. I used maps to get to a new school I was subbing at but about halfway there I plugged the phone into the car charger. I used the foresquare app and took it out to check the time a few times between 10 and 10:30. I put it away and by noon the phone had shut off.

I charged it in the afternoon ( it seems to charge really quickly) I took it off at 5PM after I made the changes to the wifi settings. ( I had also gone to system updates and tried updating the four items there.  The first two items appeared t update.) by 9PM it loked like I was at about 80%.  I thought problem solved, but this morning it was off again.  I ordered an extended battery and a standalone battery charger.  I hope this helps

  • My Marquee battery was terrible too. Even with all the power settings suggested here and Juice Defender I could not get more than about 6-7 hours of minimal usage. I ordered a replacement battery on Amazon for about $6. It is the same size battery as the one that came with the phone. It seems to be from LG and it lasts about twice as long as the one that came from Ting. Kind of a pain but at least I can use the phone for a whole day now.

  • I'm glad to hear an lg battery bought online helped. I ordered two, one lg oem battery and another 1900 mah battery that fits in the original cover. I will review both when I receive them and have a chance to review.

  • I received my phone on Friday and ended up charging it 3 or 4 times before the day ended (playing with it and downloading apps). I had data shut off and had downloaded Juice Defender to shut off what I wasn't using to save on battery life.  When I went to bed that night, I put my new extended battery in it and let it charge all night. 12 hours later, I disconnected it from the charger and fired it up. That was probably around 3 p.m. (yes, I'm a night owl). It's now going on 2 a.m. and the battery icon has just now turned yellow. I've been sitting here all evening tweaking my phone the way I want it, installing apps (wifi), playing games and just becoming familiar with it. I have used it off and on from the time I took it off of the charger until about 8 p.m., but since 8, I've used it almost constantly.

With the extended battery (and cover), it's probably twice as thick as without it. It doesn't bother me at all and is certainly worth the extra battery life. I'm happy (so far) with mine. =)

  • Update on new battery.  So far the OEM LG battery I bought off ebay for approximately $5 is far outlasting the battery that came in the phone.  Subjectively the battery feels heavier too.  It looks like whoever Ting bought the refurbished phones from just cheaped out on the battery.  So far, with normal usage, the phone has lasted 30 hours and is at about 27%.  The battery that came in the phone never lasted 24 hours even if I hardly touched it.  Now it has gone like this with a few calls, an hour or more of web surfing, an hour or so of e-reading, checking emails/texts here and there.  Also the phone that came in it would sometimes seem to discharge slowly, and then suddenly in a couple of hours discharge half way.  Not seeming to be a problem with the new battery. I still haven't gotten the 1900mah battery, but I'll let you know how it works when I do.  But from early signs, it looks like you can't go wrong hopping onto ebay and shelling out 5 bucks to get an OEM LG battery- already seen a very significant improvement.
