Card is already registered with another Ting account
Answered

Tried to buy an Optimus G with my Visa credit card.

Transaction failed (see "Credit Card not approved" bug elsewhere on the forums)

Tried to buy an Optimus G with my MasterCard credit card.

Transaction failed (see "Credit Card not approved" bug elsewhere on the forums)

...

Realized I didn't even have an account yet. (Device Purchase steps never ask for a new login / password)

Created an account so I could post a question in the "not approved" thread referenced above.

First, though, tried buying the Optimus G with my Visa again, after making (and signing into) this account.

Got this error: "Card is already registered with another Ting account"

Hmm...

  • Give us a call so we can take a look at which account might have your credit card and remove it so you can try ordering again. If need be, we can also help you place the order.

  • Having the exact same issue... wasn't logged in, started the purchase process, punched in cc info, abandoned the process, came back later, created an account, started the purchase process, got told "Card is already registered with another Ting account". I'll call on Monday.

  • Hey Ben,

It sounds like you got just far enough along on that first attempt to save your billing info, but that's it. That's why you're having this problem.

However, I've just gone ahead right now and deleted your card from our system, so you should be all set now.

  • I followed a similar process as Benjamin (went to checkout then bailed, came back later after signing up for an account).  Can you please remove my CC# from your system so I can use it to checkout?

  • Hello everyone,

I seem to have made the same mistake Ben had as posted above. I was in the process of purchasing a phone when I realized I should probably create an account first. I was hoping to have my card detached from the previous attempt so I may complete my purchase. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I see Lisa just sent you an email letting you know she's taken care of this for you. Great!

If there's anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

  • Same problem. Got some info in before creating an account and locked out by 'cc# registered with another account' or whatever. Would like it unlocked!

  • Nicholas, I've removed the card from our files, so please log into your account and you should be able to add it now.

  • Hi, I'm having the same problem!  The card I want to register with my account ends in 3416.  Can you delete it?  And how about you maybe fix your systems so this doesn't keep happening lol

  • @Austin I've sent you a message following up with that as I can't find that card number.

  • Hi, I'm having the same problem--I bought  a phone, but now can't activate it as a result. Are you able to remove the credit card?

  • Hey Sarah,

Thanks for writing in. Try adding the credit card information now and let us know if you are still getting the same error.

  • I have to add myself to the "me too" column, only it was my wife who made an account first with our common credit card, and then cancelled her account so that I could handle our phone. Unfortunately, although her account has been deleted, I still get the aforementioned error when I try to put the card in for my account.

  • Hi Grant,

The forums aren't a great place to discuss credit cards. I'm going to send you a help request to discuss your situation. Keep an eye out for an email!

  • Almost 3 years since this was asked and this is still a problem? Is there a P0 bug filed somewhere? :-)

Waiting on live chat now for someone to help resolve this "card already registered" problem for me.

  • This is still something that requires contact with our support team to resolve. Ting's systems are set up to only allow a payment card to be attached to one Ting account. If you run into a problem with yours being attached to an account that was already active with Ting get in touch so we can help.

  • Richard,

As mentioned above, we only allow one account per card. If you're trying to use the same card to sign up with Ting service as you did to buy the SIM card, make sure it's the same account you used to order the SIM card. If it absolutely is the same account, get in touch with our support team at ting.com/support so we can sort it out for you.
