How to upgrade phone?
Answered

I ordered a new phone to replace the one i have. When i go to activate it, there does not seem to be an obvious place to click to swap it in. The choices are to get a new number or bring an existing number to ting. Before ting i was a virgin mobile customer, and it was very easy to "swap" phones, which i did a few times.

  • At the moment, this requires a call or email to Ting to get the number swapped.

  • It would be VERY helpful if was a note about this in the activation section  such as "use an existing ting number--call or email"  As I spent 20 min trying to figure it out (and being out east you guys are closed for the evening)

  • We have been with Ting for a few months now.  We are looking at upgrading our phones to better phones.  I'm finding it much harder to upgrade my phone to a better one - now that I'm with Ting.  There should be a way to activate and upgrade once we're already here.

  • Hi Duane, thanks for the great suggestion. I will pass this along to our development team. In the meantime, you can give us a call or send an email if you'd like to upgrade your phone.

  • Hi Luis,

You're able to swap out your existing phone with your new device by going into your device settings at ting.com and clicking "Add Device" and enter the ESN (or serial number), and select "Swap an existing number" and that will allow for you to swap your device.

  • Another procedural question.   If I have two phones  A and B.  I am going to get a new phone C.  Now I want to retire A, swap B to A, and C to B.

How do I do that?  Activate C first, swap B's number to C and then swap A to B?

Will I deactivate B before switching A to B?   -- Would I have a window to swap both w/o deactivating B? How long?

    Thanks

  • Hi Steven.  You would first add C to your account and swap the number from B to C, which would free device B. Then, just move the number from A to B, and A will become inactive.

Just be careful not to deactivate any device with a number you still want to use as that will also completely cancel that number.

  • Well say I wanted to keep my ting account and "upgrade" or rather just buy a new phone through ting, would it be possible to keep my current phone number?

  • Hi Tony,  Whenever you activate an additional device, you have a choice of a new number, swapping a number from another Ting device or porting your number from another carrier.  Ffeel free to contact us through a support request if you need any further help.
