Does the HTC One sold by ting come with the GSM SIM card slot unlocked?
Answered

On the ting blog a couple weeks ago, Andrew mentioned that "No promises, but it looks to us like the GSM SIM card slot is going to be unlocked on the version we’ll be offering. More news on that just as soon as we can confirm."

I already ordered the HTC One and was wondering whether this is the case, as I would love to be able to use this phone during international trips.

Thanks.

  • Yes, we have been able to bring a Sprint HTC One over successfully! It likely will require a call to us to do the transfer though once you have it.

[Update: May 22, 2013 - Just as a heads up, we're no longer able to bring HTC One (or Samsung Galaxy S4) phones that were purchased from Sprint over to Ting due to certain hardcoded settings in the phone that would diminish the abilities of the phone with us. If you've already brought one over successfully then your phone should continue to work fine, but new devices can't be brought over currently. We're looking into whether we can get this resolved, but at this time you won't be able to BYOD them.]

  • Lance,

Andrew's comment above yours is Ting's official response. Do you need some clarification?

We are still waiting on the final answer, so we are not able to give an official yes or no just yet. Thank you for your patience!

  • I just wanted to pop into this forum thread with a more recent update.

The HTC One is an unlockable device. We can unlock the device for International Service based on an approval system. The information is sent off to our network provider and they will let us know once the unlock is complete.

The unlock process can take a bit of time of complete (a number days, up to 10). Once it's complete you need to do a Profile Update while in America. The phone should then be provisioned for International Use.
