I only get 3g data coverage when connected to a Sprint tower, why can't I get data wherever I am at like other sprint customers?
Answered

Other that have sprint phones get data coverage where I don't, I have narrowed it down to places where there is no sprint cell tower.  Which for me I am more frequently out of reach of a sprint tower than I am in connection with one. Why?

  • Ting doesn't currently offer data roaming.

  • Recently switched from Sprint to Ting using Sprint towers and now I don't get connectivity in the bldgs. Are you able to ask Sprint to increase the signal in a busy area (schools, shopping mall, strip malls, restaurants, library, etc. are all in the area. I do not have access to the server at work to install a booster nor would I want to pay for a booster and not the best idea to find another location in the building. Phone struggles to find the signal but states 3G,  3 dots. I purposely bought the iPhone because my son's worked so good at home and had LTE automatically at the house, now if I can just get service at work I will be very happy. I'm new to iPhone, is there a setting that can be adjusted?

  • Hey Vickie,

I would check two things before getting in touch with our help desk.

    1. Verify that LTE is turned on by going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE. This switch should be turned on, or your phone will only get 3G service.

    2. Verify that there's LTE coverage where you are, and as long as you've done #1 here, go to the dial pad like you're going to make a phone call and dial  # # 8 7 3 2 8 3 #. The phone will update carrier settings.

Three dots is actually pretty strong coverage, but we want to make sure the symbols says LTE. If these two steps fail to get you to LTE, head over to ting.com/support and either give us a call or start a chat with us. You can also email us at help@ting.com and we'll reply as soon as we're able. If this is time-sensitive, give us a call at 855-TING-FTW.
